What are you talking about? I'm not being pretentious or trying to be better than you, I'm telling you that you're using not using English correctly. If you want debase the English language with your political agenda, go to Tumblr and create all the feminist newspeak words you want. But here, this is an English-speaking forum, so speak proper English.Raspberriel wrote: 2f96m

Also, "they" is not feminist newspeak either.
I'm not jumping to any conclusions, it's pretty obvious why they're using it. And perhaps more people are using it in recent times, but it's far from universal, and it still sounds completely foreign it me, especially when used in such a way for a known individual. If you don't know a person's sex, "he" is appropriate.Foxtrot wrote: 2l233p
It's not grammatically wrong to use the "they" with a singular meaning. It's often found in official documents. No need to jump on assumption about gender and Tumblr, really. It's also a good way to prevent yourself from repeating "he" or "she" all the time.

Is it pronounced the same was as in Hans-Hermann "physical removal" Hoppe?UltraHenzie wrote: 411z4m
Although I sometimes agree on that...
OT: Oh so now you're saying I'm an idiot,
just because I misused grammar?
Just wow.
Lesson number 1:
Do you have Coke?
: Coke?
The long vowel of the o?
Shape your mouth to make the long o sound like row.
Focus on the parts in bold.
Ok, let's take it to the next level.
The Mid central rounded vowel.
Only part of the languages use it.
It's not very tricky. "hoppe."
Looks innocent does it?
Well, you're fucked as soon you see how to pronounce it. Go on. TRY IT YOURSELF
Wait, who are you talking to?B1rd wrote: 4w393k
I won't expect you to understand the difference between singular and plural. Don't worry.
OR both of you stop being fucking twats.B1rd wrote: 4w393k

To be fair, you can skip this pointless aspect by just using gender-neutral when referring to unknown people.Aurani wrote: k3n52

Why on earth would I be referring to UltraHenzie, when he wasn't even the one using singular they? I was referring to all the people who use singular they. Take you own advice and don't try to nitpick grammar when you're not even right.DaddyCoolVipper wrote: 4p47

Don't get me wrong, using both is completely fine. I just prefer to use "he" on forums for the aforementioned reason, and it's a nice conversation starter.DaddyCoolVipper wrote: 4p47
I... guess? I don't see the ratio as important, and generally just use gender-neutral unless I have a reason to (i.e. if I know the gender of the speaker). Works fine for all my communication, so having needless potential confusion (regardless of how likely it is that there'll be a mix-up) seems silly and pointless to me.

I know you ITT regulars are quick tempered and odious, but this is just taking it to another level. Every single topic of discussion turns into a shitfest, and it's really an eyesore for an outsider/neutral. I know it's a part of your little circlejerk, but you should really cut it down a bit. It's downright annoying.

Objectively
This is the most polite way of me saying "fuck you".
If you don't want to see anyone arguing, you should leave the internet. In a small society, I don't. Bigger ones attract different personalities and people (for the most part) don't know each other well. On the other hand, a couple of you have been doing this forever. It wouldn't hurt to create some positivity, and break free from this monotony.

I'd love to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I know you're baiting the shit out of me there to get me to talk about something completely unnecessary.Comfy Slippers wrote: 4v5r2f
You make it sound like something drastic, and its sad to see someone with such a standpoint. Casual lighthearted discussion isn't something that should be considered a "change".
Yeah, just like B1rd I was already feeling a bit annoyed when I wanted to let off some steam and make a joke-y post here. I really shouldn't have reacted the way I did, and I'm glad I was able to keep myself from posting more.Comfy Slippers wrote: 4v5r2f
