http://puu.sh/2nESi - this is what my unified scoreboard looks like now. The scores won't load. I have a really slow internet connection, but normally scores would load with about one second delay, so I think it's not because of my internet. The normal (not unified) scoreboard won't load either.

I restarted my client and it worked again, but when I clicked another beatmap, it wouldn't load...

That "--" instead of ranks - is it normal?

Yes, that's normal. When you have unified ranking checked you see the ranks with mods you have selected, they can be any rank.
This is obviously to avoid a cluttered online ranking.

Awesome update, but one thing bothers me:
I can't see local scores during playing anymore and I am not good enough to get rank #50+ on nomod, so seeing these during playing doesn't help and makes the in-game scoreboard pretty much useless for me since I don't have many friends.

The only things I don't like about this is the unified ranking being turned on after I finish every map and the scrolling down on the ranking display thing. Other than those, this is pretty nice!

It scrolls until it reaches your own score.

I really like this unified ranking system. But i don't really understand how it exactlty works or why i can't see people's ranking place.

Also, i scored an A that was better than my S a few moments ago. The A was saved online, but what was shown was the S. If i wanted to check my A I had to scroll.
Things like that make me think i don't know how this new system works.

It really looks good. but i miss the buttons on top.

I think it would be nice if i could go to options and disable autoscrolling or choose what i want to be shown in a way i could choose.

Nice update! Autoscrolling is a bit annoying but from the outcry I assume it'll be fixed soon.

The two things I'd like to see changed:
1. More top overall scores: Maybe not back to 400, but 40 would be nice.
2. An option to put your local scores at the top. Having to scroll down to them all the time is a little annoying.

The new limit is rank 50, but you will see pretty much all ranks with the mods you have selected anyway with unified.

Like the overall update. Personally i haven't seen the local scoreboard autoscroll, but maybe I'm just not paying attention. One thing that confuses me is the point of the local score since it seems really cluttered when you have a lot of plays on a specific song. Also i think when you have a local score that is the same as your personal best its a bit redundant since you end up having 3 of the same score on the board.
The thing i would want to see changed is that maybe all local scores get moved under the personal best that shows the rank, then you dont have the issue like my image that shows a local score, a personal best, then more local scores.

So yea like the update, cant wait for unified to go live for free s(its a really nice feature but im certainly not paying for it haha)

For example, I find the difference in points between 2 people pretty useless. What is interesting to know in osu! is the absolute score you have to get to someone, not the score difference.



Moreover, those duplicated entries in the ranking make me puzzled. I mean, no need to show the same piece of information three times, right?

The difference in points between 2 people is cool, you just don't use it
I think your -- rank is you best rank on your computer and the first #357 your best online score (For the second #357 I think t will delet)

I don't like how the rankings automatically scroll down and show my scores. I much prefer having separate online and local scores - everything's much too cluttered as it is now. Can there be an option to view the new scoreboard and the old version with just the top 40? Or at least stopping it from scrolling down every time I choose a song :S

It's a lot of nice ideas but needs some work still. The scoreboard is very cluttered and slightly confusing as-is, and I hate the auto-scrolling feature (which seems to have disappeared already?). Also, I'm generally more interested in top scores than my own scores. Generally my only score I'm interested in is my top score, and the old system showed it just fine. If I want to see more details about my own scores, I scroll down.

Why is this one option. Separate into 3 boards with friends' scores, top 40 (or 400), and local scores. And nobody cares about same-mod, just a waste of space cluttering things up.

A friends board is also the only thing you mentioned that would make things more competitive. I can see a friends board being pretty awesome.

PS: Making local scores harder to see is annoying, why would you do that for no real reason.

I fail to understand why no one should care about same mod scores. You realise that for those that can't get in the top x00, this will give them a more competitive play environment? I don't focus on local scores all that much, so i dont have a problem with that.

as for the mod separation and other stuff, i actually look forward to using that when looking at scores, but i guess it'll take a little getting used to .

EDIT: I see, so the whole thing about local score is that its all stuffed at the bottom... lol, i actually like this. i can compare my scores with diff mods and %'s easily just by scrolling

I find scrolling immensely difficult when using tablet.

In my opinion some World|Local|Friends|Country tabs upon unchecking Unified would make for a cleaner interface and provide more information. (Though the Country thing is still feature request).

I'll give some input about the new leaderboards here as the current #20 player.

I play some maps repeatedly because I enjoy them and/or want a better score. When I beat my record, I almost always no longer want to see the old ones because they're not relevant anymore. I'm more interested in how my friends or other top players have scored.
Playing at a global level is less fun now because most of the Top 50 is hidden now, so there's not as much incentive for me to play for a good score in that range unless I get into the Top 5, which is usually difficult.
Seeing the distance between scores (+54,958 for example) is too much clutter on the leaderboards for me. Each already contains many statistics and it's almost always more helpful to see the score I have to beat.

Top 40: I often play for scores in this range, so I would like to see these. Top 5 is too limiting.
SameMod: Not really interested.
Local: I usually only want to see my highest score.
Friends: Most interesting statistic for me, I would most appreciate just being able to see my friends' scores.

In my opinion letting people see one leaderboard at a time is best. Putting them all together is really confusing, it gets cluttered by local scores and people can't easily find the information they're looking for. It's a bit late for me, so I hope this made sense.

I don't like this. I don't care about the online board scores, I only care about my own local scores. I don't want to see the others.

Let me go back to only seeing my scores.

Put some way to show the default online scoreboards. That would be better.

The thing about these merged scoreboards is that if you're online, you have to wait for the online scores to load so you can view the local scores stored on your computer.

Which seems silly in my opinion, since if you've got really terrible internet and the online scoreboard can take a while to load or may not load at all, why must you wait for the online scores to load so you can view your local scores? Playing offline will bring up just the local scores, but then you can't really submit scores to the online scoreboards without connecting to the internet, submitting the score, then disconnecting so you can view the local scores again.

Plus, having all these scoreboards mashed together is messy, can't we have 3 scoreboard categories to choose from, like local / friends / online because that would be great and 100% more clean. u c u;

I always play with my local ranks. And anyway, I don't think that just play offline is a nice way to resolve the problem. I play with my local rank is for check the hard part that I may usually missed on by checking the combo of my local ranks. And on the other hand, I think it may be really important to most players that are not really so pro that can always in top 50 to see their local ranks when playing.

Basically, the use cases was before:

1. local ranking.
2. online ranking (top 40 scores, and maaany pages).

But now:

1. Table unified ranking (Online top50, friends, and local). <-- cool xD

Opinions: I like the idea, usually never look at my local ranking, since I only want the highest score (that is the that remains online). The only "bad" is that now is a bit confusing quickly recognize what is what.

Now, what really interests me is the change that will calculate the PP. I guess now is the top of each mod, which I quite like, being 1st in any map requires a lot of skill with FL, although they can be very good with other modifiers, such as Hidden.

I am considering everyone's opinions here. There will likely be some changes to this feature in the near future. Keep the coming from both sides. I'm especially interested to hear from people who prefer the new style of ranking, since these people generally won't speak out loudly.

I'm actually a huge fan of the ingame leaderboard - competing against friend scores means you can actually see your place rise as you play the song, not just in the last 10 notes or so. And I can also see my own score now while I'm watching someone else play, which is something I've wanted for ages.

On the flipside, the song select leaderboard feels a bit cluttered and off IMO, the local scores crowd it up and the "mods you're playing with" gives irrelevant, nomod results a lot of the time when the mods you're playing with have very few scores. I'm looking forward to seeing how that evolves.

I say definitely keep the mixed ranking with friends cause that's very nice and you can compare with your friends on certain maps, definitely really good.

That being said, I liked to be able to go through my local scores and watch my old replays, so I'd definitely be in favor of that coming back.

The point is not everyone is going to understand it. Limit it to 50 if you have to. It would be less confusing and be a normal leaderboard system that everyone would understand. Just throwing it out there.

I'd like to have a possibility to compare my old scores to my new ones, tho, to see whether I improved or whether I'm still as shitty as ever, so I wouldn't like to have local scores removed from scoreboards.
Having them on a seperate scoreboard, similar to what we had before, would work better, I guess.

I find it very nice because you can see now who does from your List played the same Map and see what Score they reached, what Combos they have, etc. But I find to keep Local Scores seperate would be better, not only because of the Look imo.

I don't think your innovation should remove old functionality, though. I liked being able to look through local scores separately and also seeing out to rank 400~ or so to check for certain mods on some maps. Also, it shouldn't default to unified ranking after each play - it should save your preferred settings.

Also, you're doing the same thing you did with the last update - forcing a large change (full of bugs) with very minimal testing on the entire playerbase. If you are going to use your entire playerbase as testers, then at least allow options to fallback to old functionality that doesn't include all of the bugs, etc. While this update doesn't affect gameplay directly so it's not so bad, I think the way you are going about pushing these updates out is wrong. I understand you have your vision of how the game is supposed to be, but you have a large base and many very dedicated followers, please take their feelings into consideration as much or moreso than your own.

In any case, it's a good idea, but the current implementation is a mess imo. Needs more organization. I think separate tabs for local, country, friend, overall, mod scores, etc would work better than showing everything in one list -- the current method causes too much clutter/unwanted information. There is never a danger in allowing more specific searching! Possibly instead of tabs, you have checkboxes that you can mix and match for each option. So you can check friend/country and it will show those scores, or just friends and it will show only those. Also make it so that whatever you picked is saved between plays instead of reset (this should happen currently, as well)

It would seem prudent to separate Local scores from Online scores. There's absolutely no reason to show every local score you ever had on a map you've played. Especially if you've played said map hundreds of times.

I don't have er so I haven't looked at the friend ranking scoreboard, however what mochi said seems about right for that too.

Edit: I like the point differential shown below accuracy. I think the new scoreboard is a good idea, just improperly implemented.

Peppy, in general, I love the new update, I like the friends score (although it does make me feel bad sometimes) and the way scores work when you play now. Also, thanks so much for fixing the complaints with the skin update so quickly, that was really great!

I have to agree though, that everything is a bit crowded... I understand the desire to save space, but I was so confused by the update I had to read almost the entire thread to figure it out entirely.

I would agree with a tabs solution, despite you seeming against it.

Couple of quick things:

1. You say that we can toggle a lot of the new changes... could you please point out where? Maybe I'm being dense, but I can't find them...

2. You also mentioned a pp change? Are you going to elaborate soon?

[Added] 3. I think its a bit weird that when I'm playing with no mods, I see all of the no-mods scores below my highest, modded score. E.G I have a score with HD and DT, and see a bunch of lower scores without mods underneath it when I'm playing no mods. I know you want to encourage more competiton among no mods groups, but that information means nothing to me below my score... Perhaps this feature could only engage when we start to play a map. Or perhaps the "same mods" should be according to the mods on our highest score? Not trying to be critical in the slightest, just suggesting some alternatives

Ps. Peppy, I think that you are bringing a lot of cool changes in Osu!, but bringing them far to quickly. It seems as if you face a torrent of differing opinions when you release these HUGE updates. I think it would be beneficial to you and the community if you slowed the updates down a bit, so you could better receive our opinion and gauge the effectiveness of what you release.

Would have been nice to use Community Voice to gauge the reception of such a change.
