Love the new skin... it will leave a way better impact on new people trying the game.

Everything just seems more crisp than the old skin.

I dont know quite to say about the new spinners, but I managed a constant 430, which I believe is because it is easier to keep track of the new cursor. I guess it looks cool. :)

Well, just a list of stuff I find weird or improvable or whatever. Some are probably feature request in nature, while others are bugs or just changes, so I'm posting it here for now. If you have a nice place to post everything, then direct me there \o\

  1. S and SS looks way too similar. At first I thought you removed the SS rank and replaced it with orange/red S and gold S :P
  2. I'd rather have the mode selection button at the far-right than far-left, as the mods button is heavily used by many, and you're probably used to hitting the far-left button already. Well, it's not a big deal, but prevents a lot of random misclicks.
  3. Speaking of the Mode selection button; why is only the icon for osu!standard tilted? It looks really weird with everythng else, and considering how hitcircles are, well, not tilted in-game, I it shouldn't be tilted. Just a small annoyance.
  4. The mode selection button is a bit bigger than the others as well, which honestly doesn't look as neat.
  5. The new hitbursts look awesome, but the font looks a bit too.. uuuh... sharp or something. A font similar to the score letters would look better imo.
  6. Hitburst colors need to be more distinguishable, as you'll look at the colors rather than the numbers to determine your accuracy.
  7. Falling miss indicators are fairly annoying. They're the only hitbursts with a falling animation. Having lots of misses results in lots of these crosses falling down, which makes the screen more clustered than they should. For example, you miss a note above the note you're supposed to hit next. The X from above falls down, and it obstructs the view as well as looking like you mishit something here as well. Animation like this in general makes reading harder as well.
  8. The spinner is just weird, and it doesn't tell you anything; neither how much time there is left to spin nor how much you've spun/how far you're from completing the spinner. The spinner also looks a bit out of place compared to the rest of the skin imo.
  9. Slidertick behaviour should be changed, as slider velocity changes are much harder to read now. It doesn't make sense that the tick should appear as if they were approach circles expanding (I think this is what you're trying to do?). By this logic, the slider shouldn't even show it's whole path before you hit the slider.
  10. Since you're revamping the whole skin, why is the sliderball still a beach ball :P
  11. Might want to make the cursor easier to see.

  13. You should be able to change the ranking screen by flicking, and have the screens snap into place. I'm not going to ever want to look at half of the results screen and half of the ranking screen, ever :P

  15. Mod selections should light up a bit more. You can see that a mod is selected because it's tilted, but if you're only going to glance at it, it's hard to notice.

Well... Will start using custom skins.
Been playing osu since beta... For a first time, right after this update, can feel my eyes hurting, literally.
Especially the new spinner part. On my eyes it works similar to watching bycicles wheel. After a certain speed i can no longer see witch way its spinning and it gets rly disorientating.
AWESOME spinner.
Also, nice scroll at the results screen! o.o
The lack of circle ghosts is still making me think it looks empty, but it's definitely better for more busy maps! :D
Also, the super pretty ripple effect (lighting) is broken .-. Even if that was intended, it just staying there is annoying... .-.

But it's still a GREAT skin! :D

First I was went "Nice!", then I saw the spinner and went "NICE!!!"
After playing for an hour or so, i think the miss would be better if it starts to fade at same time it starts to fall. BUT as i cant test it, i dont know, i may be wrong xD

Huh wait really? I never noticed until the recent changes :oops:
They will turn black after a certain colour threshold.
Can you change the threshold because on some sliders the arrow remains withe but is hardly seable like these :

What prevents you from using the old templateskin as a skin?
Now it can not be ed through osume, but people in any way have it. In the theme of skinning on the forum, for example.
You can use it, but it will be missing some elements, and others are not skinnable (as main-menu tabs, for example)

+1; when I was trying it out on test build, I beat most, if not all of my high scores, and could play easier :p Your experience may vary of course depending on what skin you were using previously.
Has anyone else noticed that "old" spinner skins (even the original old one) aren't dimmed when you use them, which doesn't make them look very good, since the spinner background picture is limited in a squarish area in the center. Anyone else have this problem?

Awesome stuff! Though I would like to say that I dislike some of the new elements, I'm conscious of the fact that we're resistant to change, so I'll probably grow into it.

The spinner was totally messed up on my side, though. It doesn't stretch to the full height of my monitor (1280x1024) - there is a line of spare pixels on either side, and a lot of space on the top and bottom which is the song background darkened. Perhaps this was intentional, though, for widescreen s.

Nice update! But I just deleted my skin's spinner elements to have this new cool spinner, and for some reason, instead of the new spinner, the old one appears... What to do?

I do not like this skin, it makes it unreadable Beatmap with some spins (blue spin :o ). Transparency and a Windows 8 style that I do not approve. Sorry I prefer the old skin.

even if i can imagine, that there was a lot of work involved with this update, i really don't like the new skin. It is to bright for my eyes and the new spinner is too confusing. Well that wouldn't be a too big problem, because i could still use the skin, i normally use. But since the ranking screen changed, the screen is now totally messed up...

My suggestion would be, that there is an option for old skins, that will change the ranking screen design to the old one.
Also, i don't like the fact, that you need to scroll now, to see, if you improved in the map. Thats something, i want to see right away. I dont know, why that was changed. Was it really that inconvenient to press the mouse button 2 times, even though you click much more often during the game? :)

As you all know, I am a taiko player. I have noticed something that deeply concerns me in the gameplay of taiko, as it has been changed in this update.

When you miss a note, the miss bubble falls down and obscures the notes. This is a problem for all players, as it is a distraction of the notes and thus covers up parts when you play.

For Example (these may not be the best as they are screenshots)

It affects any time the map has any kind of stream, or a flow of constant notes.

I encourage you to change it back, not because "omg I hate change" but because it actually affects how the game is played and makes it an unneeded distraction.

I think, you meant the "Prefer new Default when skin not available" option with the Link? Well, it was turned off, so it doesn't change anything. Even tried to turn it on, but that just resulted in other bugs :(

you cant even tell if youre playing well with the new skin because theres not the color like befor that signals you when you fail doing a 300. you have to look up on your accuracy what really sux i think. also the circles are not as visable as they where before. i always loose the focus on the mouse in spinners.
ppy already said that spinner will be changed. Soon the sprites will be released so you can recolor the hitbusts for whatever you want (or find a friend to do if you cant). Circles are more visible and clean, what are you talking about xD IF you really hate it and cant play at all with it because whatever reason, you can always use template skin or any other :)
Great modernizing update for osu! in my opinion. There will be haters but then again you cannot satisfy everyone.

or its complementary/inverted colour. that would be pretty amazing. Like how the repeat arrow gets black when it's a whiter combo colour and vice versa.
Actually would be nice if the reverse arrow would be the negative value of the combo color of the slider, while the slider ball would use the combo color of the slider.

Stop complaining about the new skin, its amazing!!!

Also there are some things i propose:
1.An option to use old animations (lighting is too little, ticks are slow,old 300 are not so smooth...) (maybe in skin.ini?)
2.An option to return to old cursortrail logistics (this skin is now broken ;.; https://osu-ppy-sh.jeuxcrack.net/forum/t/98455 )

This is definitly a step foward for skinners and a memorable day in osu! but look at the past and all those skins that now can´t be enjoyed as well as before...
(im also still waiting for an option to use 4:3 backgrounds on widescreen resolutions, the image quality is incredibly better).
I agree with everyone that it looks so clean especially the main menu! ^.^

So - I think that the new game skin quite well, although it needs further development.

  5. In some places, sometimes there are black instead of white arrows.

Took a little bit getting used to, but this is a huge improvement. Great job to everyone who worked on this!

  1. I was concerned about how hitbursts seemed to linger a bit before disappearing(and misses seemed to drop off the screen instead of just disappearing) compared to the old skin, but it didn't affect my gameplay as much as I thought it would and was able to get used to it pretty quickly. Can't say the same about other players, though.
  2. My playstyle makes me somewhat immune to the reversearrow change, but I've heard from a lot of players around me that it is very difficult to see them when the sliders are of bright colors but not so bright as to make the reversearrow become black. I see this has already been mentioned, and guess people are already working on it.
  3. This has also been mentioned by either kriers or CXu already(I forgot), but it might be a better idea to move the game mode selection button to the far right instead of the far left since players are used to selecting mods for maps when they hit the far left button. Trivial issue though.
  4. On the results screen, how about having three buttons(retry, watch replay, back to song selection) instead of just two(retry, watch replay)? I've found myself automatically clicking on the 'watch replay' button when what I wanted to do was to exit to the song select screen, guess one can get used to it too but it might be a nice idea to be able to exit to song screen menu not only by clicking esc but also by clicking a button.
  5. I love the font!!!
Nice skin update, I can only hope the template gets released soon so the skins can be updated, I especially hope that precision gets an update.
I also think non updated skins that you can get through the updater should get some kind of marking to indicate that they may not yet be fully compatible with the new format
Nice Job! The new skin looks great, and the way you moved the special modes makes things quicker and easier to reach.
Thanks a lot for this new UI, I found it pretty cool, more clean and modern than the old one, this time we can play with it without modding!


I like:
- new reverse arrows
- pause background
- main menu design
- new hitmarkers, even the 300's should be transparent

I dislike:
- I can't put my playfield anymore :o
- Spinners hurt my eyes and there is no more gauge

Unfortunately with these changes my skin looks strange, many things are shifted, so we need the new template folder to update this!

I'm almost certain they changed how hit-sounds are handled with this release (either that or I screwed up some of my files really bad), there are some songs that just don't sound the same anymore.

Can anyone confirm if it's just me or did hit-sounds actually get changed?

Spinner isn't all that great, to be honest... I don't like it and it confuses me greatly while playing.

I'm bothered that the new update has broke quite some things, aside from that and the spinner, it's just okay.

yeah maybe. i think the slider ball being the same color as the combo is a good idea though. the blue slider ball looks terrible on some colors, so why not make it look nice on all colors

This goes for everyone making points about this update, check the tech forum first and consider cleaning/suggesting things to CXu's topic.
Really digging the new style; very clean and modern.

I can understand why some of the more pro players might take issue with stuff like the falling miss indicators or the new spinners, but as a filthy casual I really like 'em. Maybe some toggles for that stuff down the line might make everyone happy?

Can't tell if it's just me though.
This will happen at "in-between" resolutions like 1680x1050, where high res sprites are being used but scaled too much. I'll look into fixing this by using lower resolution ones in these cases where possible.
This happens on 1920x1080 as well. It's noticeable with the Mode icon, the ranking letters on the top during breaks while playing, and on the circles in the editor timeline. Not sure I've noticed it anywhere else.
hmm, is this me, or the playspeed seems get little got a lag for a while, and it makes more hard to smoothly moving?

I really like this update initially, but I also feel like the new skin doesn't have much performance . I also had trouble with the reverse arrows and the game feels different to me but I think that's because it's running better now. To me it feels smoother. The spinner I can go either way but I'm not sure it blends with the theme, I really like the dot in the center of the map length indicator and it got me thinking, maybe the spinner could have a clock hand to spin and the meter fills the circle?

HD is also really nice and even though the game plays differently for me now I'll get used to it for this, thanks a lot.

The spinner is really annoying. I'm getting used to the skin but not the spinner!

Few little issues I had with the skin:

1) The miss graphic will start to fall after a while. If we could disable this for custom skins, it would work to make things more uniform with the hitbursts. It happens on taiko too.
2) The "Return to Menu" option in the results screen was moved to the back button on the other side of the screen. This is mostly muscle memory causing me the issues, but putting something back there would be kind of nice.
3) The SS icons don't look very good. You can't really tell what it is from just the letter.
4) The UI change happened halfway through me making a skin, so now I'm waiting for the new template skin and the taiko elements. .3.

Few little issues I had with the skin:

1) The miss graphic will start to fall after a while. If we could disable this for custom skins, it would work to make things more uniform with the hitbursts. It happens on taiko too.
2) The "Return to Menu" option in the results screen was moved to the back button on the other side of the screen. This is mostly muscle memory causing me the issues, but putting something back there would be kind of nice.
3) The SS icons don't look very good. You can't really tell what it is from just the letter.

Was a config option added to force the HD sprites on/off?
I really like the skin ^.=.^ The only thing that really bothers me is the spinner because it overrides the old spinners which were sometimes really beautiful ._.
I want old spin and icon of S and SS. New is ugly ;<
I'm sure this was posted somewhere but what's the difference between black and white colored sliders? I was playing yesterday and didn't see any black ones. Today's update seemed to introduce them.

white and black slider repeats. They are black when the combo colours are of a lighter colour and white when they are dark.

u see my problem is that osu crashes.
And it happened right after update in error report it says :
System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a disposed object.
and bunch of other symbols that make no sence to me what so ever.
Dont matter what i do play or just afk at menu.Cheers.

Issues aren't being examined in this thread.
As theowest said, please create a new thread in this forum (Technical ) and give every details you can about your issue, including screenshots of the error message.
Even though being used to the old skin, it only took a few seconds for me to like the new UI.
However, in this latest update, I noticed it's no longer possible for me to "ragequit" a song quickly like I used to be able. Whenever failing or quitting a beatmap before, I'd be able to quickly press "Back to menu", and just as quickly navigate and press all neccessary menu buttons in order to quit in less than a second. I was able to press the buttons before then menu screen had faded in, but I can't do that anymore in the song select screen.

This may just seem like a trifle to you, but this has annoyed me immensly. (Also it's some degree of functionality sacrficed for a shinier interface)

Other than that, great update!
