Well, I think this is the first time I dislike a new update. I was quite attached to the seperation online/local and the top 400. Now I find everything cluttered by too much information.

For example, I find the difference in points between 2 people pretty useless. What is interesting to know in osu! is the absolute score you have to get to someone, not the score difference.



Moreover, those duplicated entries in the ranking make me puzzled. I mean, no need to show the same piece of information three times, right?
...Or maybe this is a bug?

I think your -- rank is you best rank on your computer and the first #357 your best online score (For the second #357 I think t will delet)

I don't like how the rankings automatically scroll down and show my scores. I much prefer having separate online and local scores - everything's much too cluttered as it is now. Can there be an option to view the new scoreboard and the old version with just the top 40? Or at least stopping it from scrolling down every time I choose a song :S

It's a lot of nice ideas but needs some work still. The scoreboard is very cluttered and slightly confusing as-is, and I hate the auto-scrolling feature (which seems to have disappeared already?). Also, I'm generally more interested in top scores than my own scores. Generally my only score I'm interested in is my top score, and the old system showed it just fine. If I want to see more details about my own scores, I scroll down.

I have to agree on this one. As much as I respect your work peppy, please test those features out in the test build a bit longer and wait for further instead of publishing them (half-assed) for everyone immediately.

Why is this one option. Separate into 3 boards with friends' scores, top 40 (or 400), and local scores. And nobody cares about same-mod, just a waste of space cluttering things up.

A friends board is also the only thing you mentioned that would make things more competitive. I can see a friends board being pretty awesome.

PS: Making local scores harder to see is annoying, why would you do that for no real reason.

I fail to understand why no one should care about same mod scores. You realise that for those that can't get in the top x00, this will give them a more competitive play environment? You realise you can still toggle it off? Why not compete against people playing with the same difficulty settings as you? Where does the problem lie here?

I don't focus on local scores all that much, so i dont have a problem with that.

as for the mod separation and other stuff, i actually look forward to using that when looking at scores, but i guess it'll take a little getting used to .

EDIT: I see, so the whole thing about local score is that its all stuffed at the bottom... lol, i actually like this. i can compare my scores with diff mods and %'s easily just by scrolling

lol, yup, i saw this too. will you move it away and separate it somehow (you can click a toggle to show where your local scores go in between others), or will you like colorcode it off or something? I'm interested in this developing scenario.

I find scrolling immensely difficult when using tablet.

In my opinion some World|Local|Friends|Country tabs upon unchecking Unified would make for a cleaner interface and provide more information. (Though the Country thing is still feature request).

I'll give some input about the new leaderboards here as the current #20 player.

I play some maps repeatedly because I enjoy them and/or want a better score. When I beat my record, I almost always no longer want to see the old ones because they're not relevant anymore. I'm more interested in how my friends or other top players have scored.
Playing at a global level is less fun now because most of the Top 50 is hidden now, so there's not as much incentive for me to play for a good score in that range unless I get into the Top 5, which is usually difficult.
Seeing the distance between scores (+54,958 for example) is too much clutter on the leaderboards for me. Each already contains many statistics and it's almost always more helpful to see the score I have to beat.

Top 40: I often play for scores in this range, so I would like to see these. Top 5 is too limiting.
SameMod: Not really interested.
Local: I usually only want to see my highest score.
Friends: Most interesting statistic for me, I would most appreciate just being able to see my friends' scores.

In my opinion letting people see one leaderboard at a time is best. Putting them all together is really confusing, it gets cluttered by local scores and people can't easily find the information they're looking for. It's a bit late for me, so I hope this made sense.

Let me go back to only seeing my scores.

Put some way to show the default online scoreboards. That would be better.

The thing about these merged scoreboards is that if you're online, you have to wait for the online scores to load so you can view the local scores stored on your computer.

Which seems silly in my opinion, since if you've got really terrible internet and the online scoreboard can take a while to load or may not load at all, why must you wait for the online scores to load so you can view your local scores? Playing offline will bring up just the local scores, but then you can't really submit scores to the online scoreboards without connecting to the internet, submitting the score, then disconnecting so you can view the local scores again.

Plus, having all these scoreboards mashed together is messy, can't we have 3 scoreboard categories to choose from, like local / friends / online because that would be great and 100% more clean. u c u;

I think it's a nice idea.

I always play with my local ranks. And anyway, I don't think that just play offline is a nice way to resolve the problem. I play with my local rank is for check the hard part that I may usually missed on by checking the combo of my local ranks. And on the other hand, I think it may be really important to most players that are not really so pro that can always in top 50 to see their local ranks when playing.

Basically, the use cases was before:

1. local ranking.
2. online ranking (top 40 scores, and maaany pages).

But now:

1. Table unified ranking (Online top50, friends, and local). <-- cool xD

Opinions: I like the idea, usually never look at my local ranking, since I only want the highest score (that is the that remains online). The only "bad" is that now is a bit confusing quickly recognize what is what.

Now, what really interests me is the change that will calculate the PP. I guess now is the top of each mod, which I quite like, being 1st in any map requires a lot of skill with FL, although they can be very good with other modifiers, such as Hidden.

I am considering everyone's opinions here. There will likely be some changes to this feature in the near future. Keep the coming from both sides. I'm especially interested to hear from people who prefer the new style of ranking, since these people generally won't speak out loudly.

I'm actually a huge fan of the ingame leaderboard - competing against friend scores means you can actually see your place rise as you play the song, not just in the last 10 notes or so. And I can also see my own score now while I'm watching someone else play, which is something I've wanted for ages.

On the flipside, the song select leaderboard feels a bit cluttered and off IMO, the local scores crowd it up and the "mods you're playing with" gives irrelevant, nomod results a lot of the time when the mods you're playing with have very few scores. I'm looking forward to seeing how that evolves.

I say definitely keep the mixed ranking with friends cause that's very nice and you can compare with your friends on certain maps, definitely really good.

That being said, I liked to be able to go through my local scores and watch my old replays, so I'd definitely be in favor of that coming back.

The point is not everyone is going to understand it. Limit it to 50 if you have to. It would be less confusing and be a normal leaderboard system that everyone would understand. Just throwing it out there.

I'd like to have a possibility to compare my old scores to my new ones, tho, to see whether I improved or whether I'm still as shitty as ever, so I wouldn't like to have local scores removed from scoreboards.
Having them on a seperate scoreboard, similar to what we had before, would work better, I guess.

I find it very nice because you can see now who does from your List played the same Map and see what Score they reached, what Combos they have, etc. But I find to keep Local Scores seperate would be better, not only because of the Look imo.

I don't think your innovation should remove old functionality, though. I liked being able to look through local scores separately and also seeing out to rank 400~ or so to check for certain mods on some maps. If you are going to use your entire playerbase as testers, then at least allow options to fallback to old functionality that doesn't include all of the bugs, etc. While this update doesn't affect gameplay directly so it's not so bad, I think the way you are going about pushing these updates out is wrong. I understand you have your vision of how the game is supposed to be, but you have a large base and many very dedicated followers, please take their feelings into consideration as much or moreso than your own.

In any case, it's a good idea, but the current implementation is a mess imo. Needs more organization. I think separate tabs for local, country, friend, overall, mod scores, etc would work better than showing everything in one list -- the current method causes too much clutter/unwanted information. There is never a danger in allowing more specific searching! Possibly instead of tabs, you have checkboxes that you can mix and match for each option. So you can check friend/country and it will show those scores, or just friends and it will show only those. Also make it so that whatever you picked is saved between plays instead of reset (this should happen currently, as well)

It would seem prudent to separate Local scores from Online scores. There's absolutely no reason to show every local score you ever had on a map you've played. Especially if you've played said map hundreds of times.

I don't have er so I haven't looked at the friend ranking scoreboard, however what mochi said seems about right for that too.

Edit: I like the point differential shown below accuracy. I think the new scoreboard is a good idea, just improperly implemented.

Peppy, in general, I love the new update, I like the friends score (although it does make me feel bad sometimes) and the way scores work when you play now. Also, thanks so much for fixing the complaints with the skin update so quickly, that was really great!

I have to agree though, that everything is a bit crowded... I understand the desire to save space, but I was so confused by the update I had to read almost the entire thread to figure it out entirely.

I would agree with a tabs solution, despite you seeming against it.

Couple of quick things:

1. You say that we can toggle a lot of the new changes... could you please point out where? Maybe I'm being dense, but I can't find them...

2. You also mentioned a pp change? Are you going to elaborate soon?

[Added] 3. I think its a bit weird that when I'm playing with no mods, I see all of the no-mods scores below my highest, modded score. E.G I have a score with HD and DT, and see a bunch of lower scores without mods underneath it when I'm playing no mods. I know you want to encourage more competiton among no mods groups, but that information means nothing to me below my score... Perhaps this feature could only engage when we start to play a map. Or perhaps the "same mods" should be according to the mods on our highest score? Not trying to be critical in the slightest, just suggesting some alternatives

I think it would be beneficial to you and the community if you slowed the updates down a bit, so you could better receive our opinion and gauge the effectiveness of what you release.

Would have been nice to use Community Voice to gauge the reception of such a change.

If anything, the unified ranking increases complexity in my opinion. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have four different sets of scores mashed together. You're usually only interested in one of the sets at a time. Since the sets overlap on the scoreboard, you'll have to gather the information you're looking for yourselves.

About same mod scores: I'm not really interested in them. Competing with players who (for the most part) I've never heard of seems kinda pointless to me. It doesn't really tell me how good my score was unless I look up all the players who got similar scores. I don't want to do that. Comparing yourselves to the top 50, your friends or your country tells you way more about the quality of your score. It's more fun too since you have some sort of relation to these players, they're not just names. Most people play nomod anyway, and having tons of SS on the scoreboard is useless.

The scoreboard is an important part of the game. I think giving up usability for a bit of vertical space is a bad idea. I don't think the current implementation is simple at all. A scoreboard switcher doesn't have to be fancy either. A single button for switching through the scoreboards would be sufficient.

Following from this, here's an idea:

How about customizable scoreboard settings, instead of one design forced upon everyone?

If someone only wants to see their local scores, they shoud be able to only see local scores. If they want to see locals+friends, or friends+local top (only their top) score, or local+friends+online, they should be able to control exactly which of these are visible (and even maybe which colors are used for highlighting, etc.)

It seems that the best way to solve the problem would be just to separate the local/online scores.
It gets to a point where the leaderboards start to look ridiculous...

Also the minimal testing refers mostly to the playability of the new features and how much they change the game.

If you feel this way then how about helping test? The features were live weeks before public release, and heavily tested by only 3-4 s.

Pretty much this. The general community may moan and complain, but bugs get fixed and features get tweaked so much faster when everyone is pitching in (intentionally or not)
This is the fastest way to progress osu! forward, and big, exciting things would be delayed so much longer otherwise, not to mention critical bug fixes. Unhappiness from the vocal minority is a small price to pay.

I disagree on a fundamental level, you shouldn't push out updates to the detriment of your players. At the very least, like I said, include fallbacks to older versions on major updates (skin changes, leaderboard changes, etc) until everything in the system is smoothed out. This way, the players who want to see these features will end up helping out, and the people who can't be fucked to help but are bothered by the bugs, changes, etc, have something to go back to in the mean time.

This is already possible, The fallback is the difference between osu! and osu!test

And that's where I disagree, just because a player has a er tag does not mean they want to be a tester. Be considerate of your base, please.

I'm not changing the way I push updates, sorry. The reason I can work so hard on osu! is due to how fast I can push stuff out. If this was to change I would probably lose a lot of motivation.

I think that's immature, and that you should be more considerate of the thousands of s you have (this isn't a small community anymore!), but do what you like. I can't stop you, but I'm still going to voice my opinion, and hope you'll at least put some thought into it.

(I guess it's 2 million total s? Although a while ago you said only 300,000~ or so were active, still, that is quite a large base)

Also, to me, personally, the unified ranking is almost 100% useless. Why is it being forced upon me every time I restart a map? You can at least add in a setting that saves whether or not you have the unified ranking box checked. This is an actual suggestion for the update, and one I strongly feel should be implemented.

When you run osume.exe, you can click the osu!test check box in the extra's tab, and it will the osu!test.exe into your osu root folder. Of course this only works for ers.

What happened ? Yesterday it was working fine : I could see all my friends score, local score, the top6 and a bunch of score made with the mods I had selected. Today on the same maps I only get a bunch of scores with the same mod and local scores. No top 6, no friends score.
I liked it a lot like it was yesterday, except that there were too many score in the "same mods"category.

Having your score at the correct place would be more intuitive though because you could instantly see who had better or worse scores than you.

Yeah, that's it, that would be really useful, also because for the majority, the friends you care more are not ALL the ones in your friendlist but especially the ones from your same country, it's less spammy than a Friendlist

So...I updated my osu! today and now my osu! immediately becomes not responding whenever I press random or F2 button in beatmap selection. Anyone else having the same problem?

One thing though: You should make it so you can see yourself on friend's leaderboards for easy comparison. You don't want the 2nd best friend to be "#1 out of your friends", you want to be #1 out of everyone. (friends and including yourself). If that makes sense.

I absolutely love the friends filter

/E: It still sometimes scrolls to my score but sometimes doesn't. Not sure if intentional and I just can't see the pattern when it happens. I'd really prefer if it didn't scroll but this is small enough that I could get used to it.

I would be fine with this, but every time I change song/play/do pretty much anything, it reticks the Unified thing. Requesting it to keep itself unticked, if unticked once.

This isn't really a bug, but the mention "Local: XX" when displaying local ranking is now redundant with "Top: XX" and should be removed.

I think it would be clearer if the "Same mod" option was named "Current mod" instead. "Same mod" seems to mean "same mod as your online score".

Also it would be nice to see yourself listed in the friends section, to quickly see how good you did compared to your friends (which is the main point of this filter).

Or rather change it to "Selected mod", I think that'd be much clearer.

Also, I agree the idea of top country, I think that would help a lot to noobs become more competitive among them (especially in countries like mine, where there are not so many players).
