Most of you all seem pretty cool. Sametdze seems very Australian. Winnyace seems like a good person at heart, just a bit rough with socializing at times. ShinRun seems chill. LostSilver is very cool and cheerful. zOz seems very American. Kaaruumii likes Kurumi almost as much as I do.

throwing my own opinions, I feel a lot of the linux love can feel not very genuine in addition to it being kinda annoying, like, you're a person that likes just messing with their computer and different versions of linux and whatever, in many ways, distro hopping and experimentating are a hobby by itself, don't try to sell it to me as an objectively better product that i'm stupid for not using, and specially don't derail every thread into linux, feels like bad manners

i feel like some of it is just plain bias, the fact that vexbolts is mostly known for tiktok stuff is definitely what turns off 97% of OT away from the threads i make dedicated to him. if i were posting clips from idk lets say azumanga daioh you would see 2x the activity and shit. if i were posting vtuber clips same story would go. i'm not frustrated by all the hate though, if anything i kind of like pissing people off using vexbolts and unemployed humour. if vexbolts glaze ends up becoming apart of my identity here on OT hell yea

Most of them are high effort, but what makes a thread good is subjective. That thread that was a Google image search competition was a high-effort one, and I like it (or its concept), but I can't consider it a good thread because there's only one post (mine), maybe because it gave the impression that it was too difficult to start. Yo aight. Making music is almost impossible without getting inspiration (well in my opinion) Sure it is possible to some extent but it's also hard to make people like the songs. As for the EP, It sure sounds similarly to sewerslvt and such. But mostly because i got inspired by it. It might sound cringe rn that the fact i say that. Like i try my hardest to make these kinds of genres and go original but it's so hard, to the point it sounds bland and such. I personally like the songs i make but it really hurts when someone says i have no identity despite me trying my best. It's demotivating tbh. For now, i try to get away with the breakcore, atmospheric dnb stuff because i want to do original songs. As you can hear some of the tunes on my music thread. And on the positive note, quite a decent amount of ppl liked my project and didn't see anything wrong with it. Yet again who knows if i would keep up or not. Y'all wouldn't care.Patatitta wrote: 5t25

I think you're missguided in your inspiration tho. I don't do music but I feel a good way of thinking would be to get a notebook and start analyzing the songs, kinda what I do on my thread but go even deeper, what techniques does the song use to evoke a certain feelign or for it to generally sound good?, then you apply those techniques to your own songs with your own vision and create something good for yourself, not, "This sound good in sewerslvt i'm going to put it in my song too" which is how it currently feels, inspiration is good but you feel more like a copycat than anythingAireunaeus wrote: 2w2b1a

no what you really need to do is put an instance of edison on your master track, set it to record for like 30 minutes, spend that time fucking around with that one plugin that you've ed but haven't spent much time with (you know the one), export that entire recording to wav, let it sit for a week, then come back to it and expand on the ideas you think are good, scrap the ideas that aren't

if I load up a youtube tutorial on how to do a specific thing with a specific synth and then use that specific thing in my music, would you consider that to be or to not be original
you can shoot for originality all you want but the vast majority of us will never truly hit it. imo art that's compelling is more important and more directly impactful than art that's truly original. schoenberg could be a good example of art that's truly original, but not all that compelling, at least not to the average person.

Let's talk in osu , In osu! there is a lot japanese EDM, however, you listen to camellia, you listen to kobaryo, and you listen to t+pazolite and you can differentiate them, they all use the same sounds and are probably inspired by the same sources but they're clearly distinct entity, with aireunaeus and sewerslvt I don't think such distinction really exists
It's not only that they're making songs that sounds VERY similar to their inspiration without much apparent artistic intention behind it (more than "I want to make breakcore!"), it's that the album cover also emulates it, it's that the way they write the song titles and generally try to sell their music is also the same. I feel there is a line between inspiration and copying someone, and I think they have crossed it
what i'm arguing is that they should just to music, a lot of music, music you enjoy and music you don't, and then painfully analyze and excrutinize even the smallest element of each song, see why they work, see why they don't, see what they techniques they use, what do those techniques accomplish, etc.
By doing that you're developing a toolbelt, and now, when you're making a song and you have an idea on your head of what you want to achieve, now that you have that deep understanding of music, I feel you can truly make something distinct. You can emulate how a certain artist sounds, but you also need to understand why that artist chose to make the song that way, and I feel that knowledge is WAY more important than knowing how to emulate it at a surface level
