Having a quick read through of Economics in One Lesson: the shortest and surest way to understand basic economics, it's quite a great book. It is a much easier read than expected, and it clearly debunks the myths prevalent in our "new economic orthodoxy", stuff like the "broken window theory" (that war/destruction is good for the econony), minimum wage, tariffs and protectionism, union sophistry, price fixing, inflation, price control, et cetera. I think everyone needs to read this book.

It's not hard to work out if you make an effort. The general quality of posts and posters has fallen dramatically, the objective content of posts has fallen dramatically. Previously going on the forum, I might get a laugh or read something that makes me think. However since then, the culture has degenerated into something than glorifies shitposting with intentionally little effort, and it attracts the lowest common denominator, as opposed to before, when there was an element of exclusivity which in effect maintained a certain standard of posting quality. I'm not some faggy relativist would say that all things are of the same quality and to think otherwise is "elitism".

Take any other older thread and compare it to what people are posting today. They are either on par or even worse at times. This isn't like MAL (CD mostly) where the quality and "fun aspect" is noticable. You not having your favorite fuccboi around doesn't change anything, but make you a nostalgic. But all of this is irrelevant.
What really matters is that new people don't feel left out and they are welcomed in this "community" really well and fast. These stories how "discord is there to boast about threads" is just laughable. I've had some decent discussion with certain people that I wouldn't in other instances. I dunno if people who claim this have a grudge against someone or they just don't like active people there but that doesn't justify the argument. Don't be ignorant, guys.

The majority of new threads barely even reach page 2, as you said, and it just tends to be a process of ignore the thread, hope it dies, and that the OP goes away. 99% of the time ITT is more or less the only place in OT that has any quality to it... probably because the people that post here actually know one another

I do NOT have a problem with people being dumb and having a giggle every once in a while, but I HARDLY need to link you all the fucking threads imbeciles have been making for absolutely NO reason what-so-ever. THAT is what I have a problem with here, and that's the crux of this entire discussion. Old vs new is a complete joke - if you want to make things better, start with yourself, and you sure as fuck aren't starting anything, nor are those people who create those threads.

The reason "old OT" was a much better place is because of two things:
1) People who shitposted at least displayed a minimum of 80 IQ in form of witty shitposts, compared to today's OT regulars who do their utmost to post the most autistic, least funny bullshit they can think of, if the concept of "thinking" can even be applied to their pitiful existence
2) In spite of all the junk that was undeniably there, some threads were still breeding grounds for nice discussions, compared to today when the only "intelligent" discussions spawn in ITT and even those immediately get tainted by the sheer scale of idiocy circling around this place.
All in all, old OT might've been a filthy piss bottle, but the current OT is like a bucket full of 8-month old semen mixed with salmonella and cockroach spit.
