yep, I was thinking of a subtitle/caption system. Let's just pack everything inside mkv's so s get to choose their desired subtitle. Although I have no idea on how to make it possible with streaming. Any ideas? We can't spam a youtube video with multi language captions.
youtube accepts subtitle/caption files to be added to the video, viewers will have a CC option which they can choose which language to enable.
I would be up for recording some mapping tutorials but I do not believe I am qualified. We just need a few people who have a few maps ranked already to help us. Even just asking them what kind of tips they would want to add in would make the video(s) more effective.
/me jumps out of thinking chamber

okay so guys, let's start planning those videos! *with high spirits* :3
Since it will be a series, here's how I think the flow should go (these will be really short videos since people like me hate long endless boring tuts) :
This box has been hijacked
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Choosing A Song To Map
^^^ Kind of subjective. Unless you want to adhere to osu stereotypes, I would only discuss this briefly.
1. to change bitrate.
2. Song length
3. Recommendations for beginner level maps- what should you start out mapping- and what songs you should try to avoid.
4. ^ example maps of each
B. Getting Familiar With The Editor (osu!std only)
I'm not sure what we would be getting familiar with... Everything is going to be covered in part II. This should be the introduction to part II
II. GETTING STARTED
A. Setting Up A Song Difficulty
1. How will we go about instructing this? What guidelines?
B. Timing Your Map Properly
1. I could perhaps be helpful unless you know some super timers out there. (charles!)
2. Will need visual indications- edit in arrows, and make sure people understand what's going on
3. Tap the beat is only semi-useful. Cover manual timing/finding proper offset
C. Adding Timing Sections And Kiai Time
1. Red lines, green lines, bookmarks? differences
2. Introduce the timing setup
3. Introduction to volume adjustment
4. style tab- when to start/end kiai
D. Placing Notes, Sliders, And Spinners
1. Really straight forward??? If we're teaching them how to time first, it seems weird that these really obvious parts are tought later. Unless we're structuring this as a beatmap from start to finish. That would be difficult. Timing should be moved lower down on the video list
2. what about slider velocity?
E. Using The Editor Features: Distance Snap, Grid Snap, etc.
1. Distance snap, use it!!!!!one
F. Customizing The Hitsounds (Preset Ones)
III. BASICS OF MAPPING
A. Mapping Techniques: Most Common Note Patterns
-Which patterns?
1. Common mapping styles/themes
2. Mapping Easy/Normal/Hard/Insane < a lot right here
3. include symmetry somewhere
4. Flow (charles!)

B. Map Editor Features: Flip and Rotate < is it that complex that it needs it's own part?
C. Mapping Techniques: Advanced Note Patterns
Oh boy....
D. Polishing Your Map
Nazi!!!!...
1. ai-mod?
2. Consistency (spacing, difficulty, hitsounds)
IV. DEG YOUR MAP
A. Adding A Background Image And Color
1. NSFW
B. Adding A Video
1. rankability
2. It's not pirating, it's borrowing :p
C. Optimizing Your Video
D. Introduction To Storyboarding
E. Basics Of Storyboarding
1. Basics are not really basic.
V. ADVANCED MAPPING
A. Using Different Time Signatures
1. Include visual aid
B. Using Advanced Beat Snaps
1. Good luck
C. Adding Custom Hitsounds
D. <insert Charles445 threads here>
VI. ADVANCED CUSTOMIZATION AND DESIGN
A. Most Common Storyboarding Techniques
B. Adding Custom Skin Elements
C. Advanced Customization Techniques
VII. GAME MODE SPECIFIC MAPS
A. Mapping Taiko Difficulties
B. Mapping CTB Difficulties But we still don't know what we're doing!!!!
C. Mapping mania Difficulties ^^^^
VIII. PUBLISH YOUR BEATMAP Why is this at the very end of the tutorials. you're going to make them go through all the advanced stuff before they are allowed to submit?
A. Submitting Your Map
B. Keeping Your Map Up-To-Date
C. Getting Your Map Ranked
so more or less we should be able to produce 25+ short videos, including in-depth sb discussions and basic game mode specific mapping. We need someone to make the awesome videos, someone to record their sexy voices, and a lot of people adding up info for each video. ^_^

Edit: I went browsing some Charles445 threads, and it made me want to put a super advanced mapping techniques section xD

Yes, I know there are some topics up there that will be useless. It needs repolishing. :)

^ Damn right

It will be a lot of work. I am on board, although I'm not sure what I can do. This seems like an insurmountable task. We need to narrow that list down IMO. I will edit this post with a more manageble list.

I will wait until this discussion is moved to another topic to continue this. Someone should start the thread
23:30 Kyshiro: pro
23:30 Kyshiro: ik ga wel wat tutorials maken > I will try to make some tutorials
23:30 Ayu: LOL
23:30 Ayu: ik wou dat ook doen > I wanted to do the same thing
23:30 Ayu: beter doen we serie's > Let's make series
23:31 Ayu: Pro mapping with Kyshiro & Ayu

I think me and Ayu could work out a few tutorials.

TVO's guidelines seem to be pretty nice, could definitely use that.

If there's anyone else who wants to , send me a forum PM or me in-game whenever I'm online, I'm sure we can make this work out.

For the people that want to :
-Should have a working mic, I think talking is the best way (Adding subtitles is a nice idea too, someone skilled in video editting would come in handy over there)
-Decent English is definitely required, I'm not saying it has to be perfect, accents are fine too, as long as it's simple to understand what you're trying to say.
-You should have decent mapping experience.

^If anyone else has something to add to this list, please do not hestitate to let me know
This is my fault, but this thread is completely off-topic.

Locking. If some wants to split off into general development or something, be my guest.
Here we go: t/109137
Please, do not talk about the tutorial project in here any more, do so in the topic I just linked.

This topic should now be back on track.
i would say this is added now /o/
ctrl+tab to activate it
No, no, no, you misunderstand.... /o\ :?

Live collaborative mapping /o/

Not

Live mapping editor \o\

Two completely different features \o/ :P
Yeah the live taiko mapping has been around for a few months. Removing the added tag.
ah. sorry.my bad x.x
Something the s recently started syndrome of misunderstanding feature requests. This is probably due to winter. I hope that this will soon cured. :)
If you want this, please check General Development.

This code could be used for other things as well such as multiplayer spectate. This should be even more initiative to this idea. On a side note: This implementation would be one step closer to LAN connection options that peppy said he didn't have plans for. If you want these things and know how to make a video and map, please help.

Now to get back on topic, I imagine there to be an collaborative mapping chat, who wants this? Something that opens to all participants. The code is already there waiting to be repurposed. It would be nice to be able to send private messages that would be received by multiple participants in game.

The more I think about it, the more I want this.

A collaborative mapping chat without having to press F8 would be so awesome.
Damn I totally forgot about the videos.
Something more like live editing, where you and other collaborators can place objects in real time. Sort of like, inviting friends to create worlds with you in LBP, in which everything is done in real time.

Sounds like this feature request. What exactly did you wish to accomplish with this statement? Is it related to whatever "LBP" is?
"LBP" is LittleBigPlanet, where you can invite friends to edit mode with you and let them modify things along with you. It's pretty much the ideal for multiplayer editing.

MillhioreF wrote: 6w3d4u

From the OP of the collab mapping thread:

cheesiest wrote: 481m39

There'd be a supervisor(the map creator), and the others in the room. The supervisor can give permissions to people in that room to either start placing objects and inherited sections, add hitsounds, and any other thing that would fit.
The supervisor could deny any kind of editing privileges to the others in the room, essentially only letting them spectate.
Great point!
This is the best feature request in the world and you should all pile all your stars onto it.

I concur with this statement.
i love that idea, ~ This idea should really get more attention

My gawd I love that game......

Anyways, maybe it could be like a multiplayer lobby sort of thing, where players will a room, let the host choose the song, and have everyone ready up to start the live editing. I'm not sure how to keep out strangers other than making this room private by default and making invite only, but I'm just throwing out ideas :P
Is it really possible ?
I without star for the moment, it seems to me too difficult.
if I had votes I would shoot them all at this request. This feature will be really awesome and helpful.
wow

pls

i wanna collab moar and this would make my life easier

love the idea
This would be quite useful if people wanted to teach others how to map ; ___ ;
Tutorials have not done me any good :L

Great feature suggestion. Need more videos. :3

can i bumP? idk

Love the idea, would need a lot of though, that's a huge update, a whole new feature.. worth it imo.
this is fucking genius omg
Definitely ing. This needs to happen. Collabs can be painfully slow, especially when taking into timezone differences.
kind of like a google doc?

i'd really like this

I've had plans for video mapping tutorials for awhile but my mic broke. I could setup my phone mic again, but will probably wait until I get a new mic.

Suggestions:
also it would be nice to be able to see the a coloured circled where your partners cursor is and it has there name in a box next to the cursor so when collabing with multiple people you can see who is placing what. Also a non f8 chatbox in the corner with appearing actions, such as "mapper1 just rotated on 'time'." "mapper2 just removed a slider on 'time'." Also, it'd be nice to assign actual roles such as storyboarder where the storyboarder is creating themselves, and to prevent any lag problems has a button when they want to send the files of the sb to all the other people and the room, and once clicking the button each player in the room can click yes or no if they want the file at the moment depending on what they are doing and their net.

Also, this would mean implementing multiple creators into the metadata, so on the menu maybe a button next to the song on the seleet screen that shows all the creators and the main creator in the normal spot as it is right now. Also, this goes to the whole bookmark suggestion I made in #modhelp but never had a chance to request, bookmarks not only let you jump to places quickly, but you can place notes on the bookmarks. So when on a bookmark there is a button where all the other bookmark tools and once clicked, you can enter in a note and save, that note will be able to read by all and you and can only be deleted by the creator.
yes please
i'd this to. well i did :D
Wow that's a very genius idea :D
This is an interesting idea. +2
osu!drive much
Not sure if I would ever use this, (since I'm terrible at mapping) but it seems like a really cool idea and I would love to see it implemented.

welp seeing as im in the process of ordering a mic once it gets here ill be making tutorials daily each being short to about 5 - 10 minutes except for the longer ones being the introduction and explanations on how to use them together. I;m looking for a good creative commons song i can use for the tutorials

I think peppy said why somewhere in this thread. :P

I'll make a deal: If someone creates a series of video tutorials on mapping in osu! – something I've hoped would have been done by now without even having to ask – I will put everything to one side and make something like this happen. This is not a new idea, and it is something I have been keen to implement, but there is a lot involved in making it work correctly.

Hell, I might even settle for new video tutorials on installing and loading new maps into osu! or anything really. I's so sad to see so few quality tutorial videos :(.
ztrot is hard at work to convince peppy into making this happen. Everyone randomly PM him with appreciation.

+1 for a great idea :D
tutorials coming soon seeing as my mic arrives tomorrow but firat need my tongue and gums to heal because of bullshit
This could be epic, you and a group of friends making a map together, it could make maps be done in less time than normal. Even teaching a friend how to map would be easier! I really do believe this should be implimented!!!

What mapping videos have been made? I'd be more than happy to make a few to get this implemented! I have enough knowledge on mapping to make some basic tutorials like timing a map or setting the offset and some basic mapping techniques. I guess I'll also make some videos on some basic stuff like setting your universal offset and using a skin. What other videos should I make?

We don't have to do anything, it's already done and more vids keep coming out by a selected few people. All we have to do now is to await this feature! :)

Perfect. Thanks!
Will be hard to implement.. but I still this. However if it doesn't happen, there could be at least ability to give a mapper permission to update his own difficulty.

Yet absolutely this idea! Best idea seen on this subforum~
(reviving this thread)
4 stars for this idea XDDD
A status update from peppy would be great...
I this.

It would be good for this to be implemented.

Go Go Go peppy o/
As much as I'd like to see this feature implemented, what peppy said a few pages back :

Giving this feature req more stars isn't going to lead us anywhere lol

I have plans of making mania mapping tuts, but o!m isn't the main mode.
Would ztrot's osu!academy count towards this goal ? :'D

cool yeah
Just got it confirmed that peppy is planning on making it (at least before he dies), he just has a lot to do.

Probably doesnt say much but at least it's confirmed that it will be done some day

Fantastic Idea! I hope someone does make a set of video tutorials o:

Made me smile. That's true, shitloads of things have to be done beforehand, but I'm glad the idea has not been thrown away.
This you a great idea. But i haven seen the post of the comfimation of this. Btw Ztrot has been working an a great series, realy great job. So that might be the videos that peppy asked for.

Happy 1000 Stars!
I agree, this is an amazing idea. Please implement, I would like to learn how to map ^^ and this would be fun.
Bumping this.

Mapper spectate could also be incorporated with live mapping.
Why is not gonna be a real feature? It's 2 years already
It's been a fair amount of time.

Are you still looking for mapping tutorials, peppy, or is your wish fulfilled? :P
Guys, I wanted to ask a question.
If this feature is implemented, will peppy have enough server capacity to handle this? Say, we have average 15000 people connnected.
I know .osu files are light but we already have multiplaying, normal playing scores, calculating PP, chatting, wiki posts and normal BSS.

Don't get me wrong though, I really liked the idea. I just want to know if this can be done

I want to have this so badly &_& It would be so awesome 8-)

Well, as measured by the game itself: Mod, get help.

Why not raise this concept? Why not take the improvement of mappers to a new level?

With the Edit / Modding Room, the mapper can take help of modding in real time, the mapper can make changes and modders he can give ideas and invite their views during the edit, making it much faster and easy way to map.

Moreover, it can be also used a "personal" chat mapper and their modders and the system of "notes", where a modder have a suggestion it adds a note, and it will appear as a "post-it" on screen mapper and click it to see what is in the message.

As soon as possible will be putting pictures as would be the Edit / Modding Room.

Edit #1:
Some pictures of Edit / Modding Room

Edit #2: The command to add your modders to the room chat could be "/modinvite Nickname"
And they receive the link in pm.

Johan.
Why don't you call it the modding spectator mode ;)
the mapper can send something like a "spectate request" to the modder who mods his map and the modder can accept or decline (maybe he don't want to be spectated during editing) and if he accept the mapper can really spectate the modder during editing and see what the modder's suggestions are (so you don't have to use puush everythime if you want to make a slidershape suggestion)

Would be so much more linked with the game osu! I think that will increase the participation at mapping and modding of players much!
George
it sounds like google docs
Bumping this thread in hopes that this may come to fruition now that we've had osu!academy for over a year now.
