osz maps are loading just fine for me
After deleting osz2 files when I start osu!shine all beatmaps are reloading.
Topic Starter
If possible can you find the specific osz2 file causing issues and PM me a copy? Maybe try adding them back one-by-one (might need to trigger a full refresh with F5 at song select)

That happened when I dragged one of osz2 beatmap to osu!. Lemme get copy of that one.

Are you able to replicate on a specific map/skin? Please provide more details.
hm

Please re-read the initial post.
Oh I see. Bancho is down for now in this version.

i don't know if is irrvelenant or not, but, i sumbitted that map. in the topic, says the size is 0kb.
i don't know if is normal. (i subbitted it with osu!shine, so, i ask here.)
Topic Starter
Thanks, will fix this. Your map s okay still, yeah?

yes. ._.
derp, no problem with databases nor does it do a full check.
everything good so far :)

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

Things I need you to test:
  1. Submit existing maps. Submit new maps. Make sure submission works flawlessly. Report anything that seems weird. :D
  2. First submissions of existing maps will do a full . Subsequent submissions should be super-fast.
  3. Make sure your beatmap database doesn't corrupt on startup. If it does, send me a copy.
  4. Make sure your local scores are still visible.
  5. Make sure osu! doesn't full process your songs at startup, or when adding new osz files etc.
- I have no maps to
- Same as above
- Beatmap database doesn't corrupt
- Local scores still visible
- No full processing of songs on startup
- No full processing of songs after importing ed beatmap (osz)

Also while osu!shine is temporary, is there any chance of that exe name being used at all in the future?

Edit: Started up osu!shine again and it full processed songs. Mouse-wheel seems to work fine to scroll song list also.
[Timing line issue]
when I opened osu!shine Editor. The timing line looks have randomness start problem. but the second try it's fine.
for example
Levaslater - NNRT (Hyper)

second try it's fine.

Another example: Lia & riya - Chiisana Tenohira Duo (Hard)

second try it's fine too.
Submit existing maps. Submit new maps. Make sure submission works flawlessly. Report anything that seems weird.
New map submitted, and update went okay, but as giuly said, beatmap file size is 0 kb. t/100233

First submissions of existing maps will do a full . Subsequent submissions should be super-fast.

When tried to update beatmap which was submitted before that build. Beatmap difficulties shows "Update to the latest version". I tried it once again. Button was "Update Beatmap" but it was full again and same bug after . Beatmap most likely didn't update.

Make sure your beatmap database doesn't corrupt on startup. If it does, send me a copy.
Message didn't show at startup, so no.

Make sure your local scores are still visible.
My local scores from normal osu! aren't visible, but local scores are saving on osu!shine after playing beatmap.

Make sure osu! doesn't full process your songs at startup, or when adding new osz files etc.
osu! did full process at startup after deleting osz2 files + osz2 which caused crash but didn't perform full process after adding single osz.
updated my graveyarded beatmap and now filesize 0kb
it did first a full submission and after that it was fast :)

Is there an osu!shine_scores.bak then? Is it quite large (>1kb)? If so, send me this. If not, send me scores.db
  1. The game froze at the first startup (http://puu.sh/1b2SN) while playing music. It wasn't using any u at all at that moment.
It worked fine after I restarted it.
I reproduced it by starting the normal public build, closing it, and starting shine again.
  2. When I open any map for the first time in the editor, the timeline is at the middle of the song, and jumps to the beginning when I click the play button.

Same here.

It's trying to display an error message. Can you narrow it down to a certain portion or single map?
The error message I get when the game does start is about not being able to to bancho ("copy is too old").
It doesn't seem to be related to a map, it happens all the time after a normal public build start/stop.
Topic Starter
When you say freeze, do you mean it stops drawing updates? No mouse cursor inside osu!? If you click the window a few times over 5 seconds does it turn grey and (Not Responding) in the titlebar?
The window is exactly as in the screenshot, nothing moves, clicking the window changes nothing (doesn't turn grey or anything). The mouse is invisible while over the window. If the window loses focus, clicking it on the taskbar bar does nothing (a grey window doesn't come back or anything).

(I'm on windows 7 if that can help).
Yep, pretty much same thing.

Submission went fine aside from the 0kb problem.
Okay, here's a list of the stuff I found. Sorry for any issues already pointed out in this thread

-Froze on first startup, had to kill through taskmanager
-Bancho doesn't connect (error message saying copy is too old)
-Sometimes I get this to show up on sliders (head supposed to be cyan)
-After updating a map with the editor the filesize on the beatmap thread shows 0kb. You still get a .osz of the correct size.
-Updating said map after minor changes wasn't "super fast". I'd say as fast as it currently is.
-Same thing after ing a brand new beatmap.
-FavoritesA and FavoritesB do not show up.
-Kat sounds while cycling through songs after having played Taiko. I like that.
-Randomly playing CtB got this to appear. Note that I exited the map. Same thing happens for Taiko (haven't tried standard)
-Going to the skin menu in the Options showed me gameplay with many skin elements missing (circles were totally gone).
-Massive sound glitches when sometimes clicking "Random Beatmap" in that menu.

Yeah, that's about it for now. Didn't try everything out, but I wrote everything I found different from the current public release.
After more testing of the freeze problem, it happens only after getting the UAC popup (triggered by the call to osu! -setassociations).

These are saved in your config file, which isn't transferred to this version automatically.

Thanks! I think you just saved me a lot of time. I'm not sure why this would fail, though (it works fine here). If you have any further idea I'm all ears (else I'll sleep on it :P)

The 0kb submission thing is minor and not an issue at all. It's just the client looking for a file in the wrong place. It has nothing to do with submission itself.

I will be releasing a second shine build tomorrow in this thread, so keep following :).
Yeah, I figured these weren't really relevant, but I wanted to point it out, just to be sure.

No idea, all I can say is that I don't have this problem with the public and test build.

Wait until you realise that you can change anything you want in the map (storyboard, background etc.) and attain the speed you just got ;).
Oh. To be fair, the only changes made were purely mapping-wise. I get it.

In the frozen state, can you see the second process of osu! running the setpermissions command? If so, is this osu!.exe or osu!shine.exe and if you kill it, does osu! start responding again?
I see it for a second, then it closes, the other freeze at that moment. It's a second osu!shine.exe.
That was for the first attempt ... after that I didn't even see the second osu!shine again.

Edit : I can't get this second osu!shine again ... instead I see two dllhost.exe launched and stopped a second after. (one when I clic "no" on the UAC, none when there was no UAC)

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

I just started osu!shine for the first time and it did just that! Adding a new osz file worked fine, though. (This is how it is on the test build for me too, so it might be related.)

Local scores loaded fine and weren't wiped or anything on start, so that's nice!

Updating an existing map went fine. I did find a bug though - if you let a beatmap completely and make the Submit button show up, but then click Cancel, the beatmap is ed anyway but with no topic! (http://osu-ppy-sh.jeuxcrack.net/s/60461) Can't test to see if that happens in public right now since I ran out of map slots D:
Related (probably), cancelling during the "Propagating updates" phase of an existing map updated the map, but didn't bump the beatmap topic, and the next time I tried to update it had to do the full submission again.

Mr Color wrote: 1qt6d

-Going to the skin menu in the Options showed me gameplay with many skin elements missing (circles were totally gone).
I've had this in public releases for so long I can (about 5-7 months)

also now that I went back to the current public, my local scores vanished :(

Mr Color wrote: 1qt6d

-Going to the skin menu in the Options showed me gameplay with many skin elements missing (circles were totally gone).
Confirming this, and there's a more serious problem - clicking Random Beatmap, more often than not, causes nothing to appear, and the only sound is a jittering 1/20 second of the song on repeat (as if the computer bluescreened while playing audio.) Leaving the skin select menu lets the song keep playing as usual.

EDIT: Everything works as it should if you leave skin select and re-enter it without changing the song.

Zertap wrote: 1q2j3f

Somewhat confirming! Switching from osu!shine back to the normal public build caused osu!shine to lose all local scores, but they're preserved in the public build.
Why circlesize=8?!
Topic Starter
I believe this addition was specifically for osu!mania compatibility (to allow 8K mode selection).

I am beginning to work through all reported bugs, and will have a new build ready in an hour or two.
hmm.. another bug.. when open editor, the Progress bar will goto the middle, and the kiai time display on the left-top may go wrong after drag the progress bar to the begin

btw my english is poor D:

I can't replicate scores disappearing at all. If this happens, please check for any .bak files (mainly osu!shine_scores.bak) and send me a copy.
All i got to say, thank you for let me map again into o!m.
Topic Starter
Okay. In order to allow for quicker turn-around in updates, I have moved osu!shine to the test build. Please delete osu!shine.exe and instead switch to the test build using the updater.

There is already a new build up which fixes some of the bugs found. I will be posting more updates through the day.
Just updated and ran test build, beatmap database corrupt... now it has to do a full process, this'll take a while! Will update this post with anything else I notice.
Topic Starter
If it corrupt, there is a high chance you already had an osu!test.db. Try deleting this then running again. It should fetch your public db (osu!.db) and work better.
I had the freeze problem happen once before the latest update (it froze with the "osu! is about to update" message). Now I can't make it happen again.
Yup, that fixed it! Much faster, it processed again but my 22k maps only took about 5 seconds to process this time :)

Beatmap filesize in the thread is still weird though... 1141138kb? http://osu-ppy-sh.jeuxcrack.net/forum/t/100296
Topic Starter
Can you get it to freeze by alternating back to the public?

No, that's what I meant by "Now I can't make it happen again.".
Topic Starter
I guess this is good news. I haven't actually changed anything, but my guess is that it was something very specific to the osu!shine executable.

MillhioreF wrote: 6w3d4u

This could be faster just due to disk cache. If you have the time, can you try the same thing after a cold boot?

Oops, fixed for next build.
I'm going to bed now, so no time to test a cold boot, sorry... The public build also took 5 seconds just now though, which is unusual, so I think you're right about the disk cache.

On the other hand, a success story - I was able to a beatmap with å in the title! The public build won't let you do that, but the test build just did, and it imported perfectly fine into both test and public. There's probably still problems with characters past 0xFF, but at least now it goes past 0x7F!
Topic Starter
The new beatmap format should unicode completely. I'm not too sure about the complete backward path (osz s and import) but this is worth testing with a full japanese filename, as well.

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

Can you get it to freeze by alternating back to the public?
yes, it is still happening. conditions to get this freeze is to get both UAC prompt and error. same thing was happening in test version for a while (I had no er so osu!test was freezing for me first time i run it).

how to replicate: start and exit normal osu version then change hash stored in config file (to cause fail) then start test version, it will freeze. other errors will cause same issue too (for example wrong version error).
Topic Starter
Interesting. Testing now.

Tried and can't replicate with incorrect .
osu! processed all my maps when i started the new test build.. I was forced to wait for the maps to process
Before that happened.. after the updater finished ing
I got a message saying beatmap files were corrupted

Is it supposed to happen?

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

so you got both UAC prompt and error and no freeze? For me and my friend it's 100% replicable. But if it dosn't freeze for you then i think there must but one more condition required.
Topic Starter
Yeah, I get the error but then the window appears and lets me . Tell me if you find anything further.

Ok, I have tried in fresh folder and it doesn't freeze. I will let you know if i know more.

Do you have any other suggestions? I already tried multiple times using your skin.
I dont really now how to report this but I'll try
The beatmap became corrupt

This is what the file looks like before i Submitted it.
This is what the file looks like after i cleared the one in my computer and ed from the site

And when i try to access in from osu! by deleting the other one replacing with the one i from the site

When i first submitted the map~ I accidentally use an unencoded .mp3
And i tried replacing the .mp3 file with a encoded one later and resubmitted it
^Maybe i was not supposed to do that?

The beatmap will become working again after i replace the .mp3 file manually with the one i originally updated
But the beatmap will be written "Not yet submitted"
Topic Starter
Unicode filenames will not work due to the osz s (as per how it has been until now). Unicode artist and title will, though.

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

So wait how do i come around this problem now...
Do i manually change the.mp3 name by opening the .osu file changing the directory there and renaming the .mp3 file name then resubmit?
Topic Starter
Get rid of any unicode/japanese in filenames, yes.

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

Well this is last resort.
http://puu.sh/1bh5u
put there your exe and dll files, rename config file (as i understand there is Windows name in filename) and try. After first run osu removes bad (and it won't crash if osu do not try to ) so keep that in mind.
if this time you also get no freeze than this must depend on system somehow (on loading times, maybe?).

Why only romanised? We can spell any non-ancii artists and songs here (russians, for example)
I tried resubmitting with the renamed .mp3 and i changed the directory inside the .osu file
But when i was submitting
I had the freeze happen again at the latest update ("osu! is about to update"), and I can get it by having the invalid error.

Edit : I tried to reduce the UAC level to not have it in "modal mode" (= not darkening the desktop), and there was no freeze.
All fine for me as now

Ok, am I the only one getting this? I really want to test it, I need to some external thing for this?

Oh, thank you, I didn't read that.
My fault... Also, testing the build~
Found a bug, doesn't happen in standard build, fully reproducible.
1. Have the Taiko skin installed, but not loaded.
2. Make sure 'Use Taiko Skin for Taiko Mode' is enabled
3. Goto the Taiko song select menu and start a song
4. Exit that song
5. Skin is back to normal, but Taiko sound samples are still being played instead of the normal osu! ones.

Found another one:
1. Go to the Skin Select Menu
2. Let the song change by itself, or hit 'Random Beatmap'
3. 9/10 of the time, it'll just play horrible noise after flashing up a random part of a beatmap for 0.2 of a second or so
4. Sound goes back to normal as soon as you leave the skin select menu.

Another one:
1. Complete a ranked Taiko song
2. The score screen simply says 'You achieved #xx on the local rankings!' but still submits it to Bancho which gets accepted. No indication at all of what rank you got online, what rank overall, your overall score, etc.

I guess i'm good at breaking things...
And peppy probably wants to break me now :D
Hmm about the Skin Select Menu bug, sometimes I get that in the standard build too
I've never got it in standard build, but almost every time in the osu!shine build.

hurr just confirming that I meant my scores I have got in the public build are lost, I think though if I run the macro to open the replays in data folder will fix it..
peppy could you make some convenient way to force check the data folder's replays. Trying to open thousands of replays via macro pressing down and enter in the windows folder with osu running will just crash the game after a little time.
just please consider this :)

not fixed. but don't worry, I don't think it's big issue, at worst you need to kill process and start it second time and it will be fine.
Topic Starter
Does it happen no matter how you reply to the UAC popup? Does it happen if you are completely logged out in osu!?
if i answer no at UAC it will still happen, if i log out (osu is not trying to on startup) it won't happen.
Topic Starter
Can you try clicking away rapidly from osu! when it is opening (to make the window inactive) and see if that helps at all?
it still happened when window was inactive, but i think you are on right track, i will try few more times.

edit: it has not happened this time. maybe i was clicking to slow last time.
edit2: it still happens, tried many time.
Found a fairly major editor bug:

-Unicode Artist seems to be handled wrongly in the editor. When importing a map with a unicode artist and opening it in the editor, the editor puts the romanized artist as the unicode artist too:

...despite that it's still unicode in the .osu file:

Artist:Doko ni Monai
ArtistUnicode:どこにもない
Saving the map in the editor will overwrite the unicode artist name completely. This doesn't happen with the song title (works as intended.)

And a really minor BSS one:
-The Creator's Words won't be updated and the forum post won't be bumped if using characters above Unicode in the Creator's Words. I don't see these characters being used ever, so it's probably not worth fixing, but it's something. Pretty firm BSS overall, it's hard to break!
I tried to reduce it to the taskbar just after the UAC popup, it seems to freeze when I click to restore it. I can also see the popup this way. It respond visually to having focus or not, but nothing else works : http://puu.sh/1byC3 / http://puu.sh/1byBD.

If I wait long enough before restoring it, there's no popup, it doesn't freeze and shows "Logging in..." at the bottom of the screen.
^ I only tested this once, and I don't have enough time to test it again for now...

Thanks to the thread dump you gave me, I have a rough idea of what is going on, and should be able to figure out a solution today. Hang in there.

New build now available. Please re-test the UAC issue and anything else that may have been broken. Skin select is still broken, though.
Opened osu!test.exe and after it closed to upgrade

I did authorize the access, so I think it somehow losed the authorization...

Just ignore that error message for now (happened before as well). Running the updater a second time should resolve it.
It actually did block there, but rerunning it, I saw the upgrade was made anyway...

Ah, seeing the layout of special modes, like this it can seem that you plan to implement other modes (there are six slots)

peppy wrote: 6w4l42

I'd like to test it but I get stuck at , the "Logging in ..." step doesn't end (even with the public build).
Making many attempts at with a wrong to test the freeze problem could have banned my IP ?

Edit : I can to the game from a different location / IP.
according to this post,
i've found the way to replicate it in test build now,

1. Open Editor
2. Find some pattern that has slider within the Approach and Post-hit range
3. Scroll the map current time with any possible way (arrow key, mouse scroll, time bar clicking, jump to X, etc.) or press Nudge timing (w/o or w/ selecting doesn't matter here)
4. The next rendered slider will have it's head and tail is white.
Slight, but bothersome issue in the editor. Currently, when I test a map, it'll only play from the last point on the timeline at which the map was saved. For instance, if I save a map in the middle and don't save it again, entering test mode from any other point in the map will launch me into the middle of a load of combos. I have to to save after scrolling to the desired point, even if I haven't made any changes.

The issue should be replicable, but if it isn't, then it shouldn't be too hard to figure out and it's not a huge issue for me at the moment.
