I have got a few questions;

Where am I supposed to post a new thread with my new skin? Somewhere in Skinning?
Secondly, is there anything forbidden to post? I suppose things that are related to blood or R-18 or something? Are there any rules on what can't be posted? (Just asking whether skins based upon characters from Fandoms are okay or not xD I wouldn't want to get banned or something from osu! for such stupid thing.)

A few notes;
Pause-overlay has to be a .PNG file, it didn't work with .JPG for me. May not be correct, I dunno.
In Skin.ini, the SliderBallFlip works exactly the other way around for me, when it's 0, it flips the sprite.
As for SliderBallFrames, I tried editing one theme and it automatically took the sprites I added, without the need of editing Skin.ini. Not sure about that though.
Further, SliderStyle does nothing for me (I added it and made sure to put it under [General]).

Thanks for any help with that! It would be pretty wonderful.
I'vegot 50 files out of 160 done already, maybe I will have finished it by the end of the next weekend! ^^ seriously doubt that though ahaha;;;

Btw seeing how many people ask about Skin.ini, you should maybe put it into the tutorial too x'DD
Oh and Kiai time is misspelled as Kaiai somewhere there. (Skin.ini spoiler, StarBreakAdditive is the exact place.)

1. Just create new thread in skinning.
2. Yes, don't post anything that contains nudity or any explicit continent. Ecchi is fine but you should give a warning in your thread. About blood, please don't post guro. It's should be somewhat safe. (we have already skin that contain "blood" but this kind is okay).

3. Pause-overlay must be .png like other parts of skin. (Exception are beatmap skins where you can have backgrounds as jpg).
4. Are you sure it's flipped? Please test this sliderball (added skin.ini with it). I don't know why you have differently.
5. SliderBallFrames will affect speed of animation of sliderball.
6. Are you sure you don't have "OpenGL" or "low end PC" turned on in options? Because of OpenGL skins will have forced sliderstyle : 2 and only style 2 and 3 will work.

Skin.ini is inside of every skin, also in template, so no need. :3c

I don't think spinner-osu.wav (or .mp3) sounds are used anymore.
Even if they are barely used in most osu skins :/

3, I didn't notice almost all the files are PNG xD Sorry about that.
4, The thing you sent me did work the correct way; However. In the template, when set to 1, it works. In an edit I made from template, it works the other way around (it is flipped horizontally when set to 0). I didn't change the SliderBall sprites anyhow yet though, so I don't know what it might have got influenced by. (In case it's needed, I can send the theme so you can see yourself.)

6, Aha there's the problem. I am using OpenGL because it runs smoother and doesn't give my computer BSOD as much as the other option (more like it does not do that at all.) It is kinda irritating with a longer hold and welp how to play it (I couldn't see the exact way it went) >_> But oh well I can't do anythign about that then though. Thanks!

As for Skin.ini, yes I know, but better add it in the first post so people won't ask about it xD

What are default-[number].png used for? I've tried changing 0 but I can't see any place where it'd change. Thanks in advance!

By default they are used as "Hitcircle numbers".
But if you have edited where they are used , they won't be changed.

This is default part in skin.ini
[Fonts]
HitCirclePrefix: default
HitCircleOverlap: 3
ScorePrefix: score
ScoreOverlap: 3

By editing it in this way, hitcircles will use score numbers instead. (or vice versa)

@MLGnom, OsuMe65; Thank you both! I actually copied the template, renamed the copy and started editing it; I couldn't see the change because I only edited 0 xD And you don't see that one that often. I've tried editing 1 now and it works perfectly. Thanks for help again! ^^

i got it when i ed an unofficial add-on for osu
it's hard and sucks so i deleted it [except the images in the Data folder]

i'm curious about those images so i tried them one by one
and i'm surprised to see some good results

Personally I'm using this but you can also use this

For play-unranked.png and spinner-rpm.png simply create new file, use any size you want (larger, smaller anything that fits you) and save with correct file name. (just test it for correct size ^^)

Fraps seems good enough like what MLGnom posted...

I use Camtasia 7 but the only thing is the lag during my own recordings...

Well, yes, I know I can create them myself, but I like to copy the basic shape of it. It kind of feels, well... more similar than the shape I'd probably use (like I usually make buttons with straight lines). But well what you said is apparently the only way to do them C:
Oh and thanks for the link, I will try and see if I can get any decent results with them! A friend of mine (who is playing DDR on keyboard) was using PlayClaw, but that was lagging horribly too. :(

Okay so this is exactly why I wanted them to post it online.
I've tried editing the spinner-rpm.png, by the size said, and osu! 'ate' lower half of it. That's why I rather copy the originals and see where the text/other stuff is positioned. Nevermind & thanks again for sharing the info!

Well my skin is published here since yesterday, you can go on and try it out. Maybe post me a screenshot, I'd like to see how does it look on other computers! C:

EDIT: Oh wait now I know why. In the comment, you stated 279x96 while the picture in the photoshop is 279x56 which is 40 pixels less.

Okay, I'm trying to update skin template right now. Will add all missing parts and taiko skinning. (At least will try to make is similar to default skin).

Edit:
Okay, this will take a little time because need to test sound samples and prepare information about taiko skinning.

Nightcore is a new mod in osu! which has a score multiplier of 1.12 [just like DT].
It modifies the pitch (+ the function of DT that doubles the song's playback speed) and adds some claps and cymbal crashes...

Now, time to write few words about taiko elements.

You don't take it away from skin.
While in game click and hold double time icon and just move it.

that selection-mod-nightcore.png can be added on your skin but don't delete the selection-mod-doubletime.png

Personally I don't know how to help with this problem. I think it's often caused by opening .osk file without osu! running. (via .osk you will launch osu!). Simply try again with having osu! already running.

I dont get it, am i supposed to have a skin.ini file ed? I got a templateskin.osk file from the HERE thingy in the tutorial, i dont understand how im supposed to make a skin.ini out of it ._.

I don't think it's possible in Beatmap skin, however better wait for a response from MLGnom or OsuMe65.

However in the skin as a whole, you can change it in skin.ini. (Which is missing in skins just for specific beatmaps.)

put a skin.ini and set SliderBallFlip at 0 (no flip) or 1 (with flip)

Since when you can add skin.ini to beatmaps? Are you sure you disabled "SliderballFlip" in your skin before testing? Because skin.ini of your skin will affect beatmap skins.

Put it in skin.ini and call the skin. Every time someone puts a skin in a beatmap, I feel like they just gave me the middle finger.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Has Peppy ever said he was against that part of osu! being skinnable? I'd image a lot of people would rather use their own color values, especially if they have a skin themed around a set of colors already.

this title.png is a forbidden part in a skin...
you need to put it in the "Data" folder of osu! (replacing the 1x1 title.png) in order to work...

[and peppy doesn't allow any skinner to do that (even most skinners disobey this)]

The hell you are talking about? He asked about menu-button-background colours not about title.png. Read again his post.

I think there was a topic about this, but I don't if peppy was against about changing these colours. But I think he wouldn't like to change them. Yeah I know it doesn't help anyway...

well... if you mean the droplets between the fruits, it is called fruit-drop.png. it comes along with fruit-drop-overlay.png (if i'm correct...) for a stylish look...


but if you mean something else, then i don't know...

What point in the image do you cut off the top so the image won't overlap the black bar on top?

you have to include the black bar on the top cause if you don't add the black bar osu goes LSD XD

you can exclude the black bar if you take the risk of this "LSD"
if not, then use a black bar

Is the black bar a separate skin element? Or is there a point in your background image where you need to manually cut off and make your own bar?

... No... The bar is part of options-background.png, and it should be around 85 pixels high.

Ehh... I was hoping for someone to explain this instead of me... but I see I must do this.
So let's begin.

1. So "options-background.png" doesn't have constant size like spinner-background or anything else in gameplay. What I mean? That you must about people that use different aspect ratio : 16:9, 4:3, 16:10 etc.
So if you are going to add it to skin and release, to add different sizes of this for different people.

2. Simple example how it's look for me as I'm using 4:3 (1280x960).
Example of putting picture

3. "But the tabs looks bad!" - Don't worry, these tabs are 83px lower than top of the picture.
Example of moving picture by 83px


4. So let me show you quick example how could it look if you want edit it.

So basically you should use size 1024x768 or 1024x600 but this is up to you.

Don't make it transparent because things will mess up!

any size is legit enough for a basic design... even it is 16:9, 4:3, 16:10 blah, blah, blah... (i used a 1366x768 options-background)

when it is in the highest (1366x768)

but for images, one size is no good

That's what I was talking about. Better to use same size as your osu! resolution. Try doings 1024x600.

Oh geez... It's looks like that options-background can only have constant 1024x768 size... If you do larger (or wider for widescreen) it will always take 1024x768 of the picture and resize it. So it won't work well on widescreen.

On a somewhat off-topic from options-background (thanks A LOT for the info though!), do you think positioning the ranking like this looks weird? ->

edit: Oh well regarding the options-background, what is recommended size/how can we add more than one in? :?
edit2: Oh actually nevermind about the recommended size or whatever at options-background. Taking a picture you want, resising it to 1024x600 and then stretching to 1024x768 works wonderfully for me. That's probably the best actual way how to do it. However again this way will only work for people who play on 1024x600 (that would be widescreen if I am correct).

On a side-off-topic note yet again because I see it didn't work out the first time, do you think positioning rankings like this is okay? Could anyone provide me a screeshot with different screen resolution (I use 1024x600) if I provide the theme?

I did few already but forgot to write about how to do option-background correctly. ^^;

Aspect ratios :
For 4:3 you simply do picture of resolution 1024x768.
For 16:10 you need to do picture of size 1229x768. Next resize it to 1024x768. Yes, it will be narrowed but after adding to skin osu! will resize it to proper look.
For 16:9 same thing as above but the size of picture need to be 1366×768. And the same, resize it to 1024x768.

As for the second part, I noticed the bars, but wasn't sure if it works the same way everywhere else. This means if I make something fit for my own theme, it will autmatically fit in the same ratio everywhere, though scaled, correct? If so, that's wonderful! I really love osu!. uwu
