I do map taiko and I gotta agree with lewski here.
If you feel like experimenting or just mapping what you think feels right that's just fine, but for the beginning I suggest to stick to pitch to a certain degree.
The pitch can't always be followed, same as certain notes might not be mapped in some way or form due to playability issues
(Big notes (finishers) in front/inside of streams for example), so if you improvise at times it's not a bad thing, just gotta make it somewhat consistent so it doesn't feel completely out of place.
Word of catuion:
If you wanna experiment around with your map, I suggest to make a new difficulty while keeping the notes, this way you can't accidentally overwrite your map.
If you ever want to know what others (Players//Mappers) think about your map you can head over to:
In a box, cause got a bit longer than expected
- #taiko (chat, in-game/forum), here you can find taiko players, simply ask if someone is interested to test your map and link it, usually someone picks up on it.
- #mapping (chat, in-game/forum), here you can find mappers and ask for opinions, though most of the s in this channel are osu mode mappers.
- osu!taiko modding queues (forum), here you can find modders who specialise in giving and modding your map.
- #modreqs (chat, in-game/forum) Same purpose as modding queues, just less direct. In this channel you can simply post your map and ask for . Results from this channel tend to be mostly non-existant these days, as most modders have either completely moved to forum or: (see next point)
- osumod (external website), just like with modding queues you can request /modding here.
- If you got Discord you can also the osu!taiko Modding & Mapping Hub
I sadly can't give you details about this place, as I myself have not ed the server
, but you should be able to find yourself around, as I'm sure there is some sort of guide or info channel to direct you to where you need to go.
That or a helpful in the general chat will direct you to your goal.
Also, you can me directly if you need or have mapping specific questions, I may take a day or two to answer, but I will answer.
Hope this helps you further
