It's more the former. My first experience with osu!mania is the bundled map Renatus, which is a 7K map. I've also played a bit of Lunatic Rave 2 back when I was new to VSRGs. The artistic limitations of 4K is less important and I map 4K as well.

I spam lane 1 bass notes, and I definitely would not guillotine myself, so no.
