... ending of the first non-tutorial case

played around 9 hours of the game so far, kinda didn't play it for two weeks as I was (and still am) beating planescape torment. Game is alright but I've just been doing so much other shit that I haven't really played it for long

oh hey I have beaten that game

loop hero is a very interesting game IMO, as it's in a kinda unexlored genre, it's like a clicker/idle game with roguelike elements, which is nice

the actual roguelikes element only serve as a way of progression as there isn't that much RNG in the game actually. Due to the way the game is made, a playthrough cant really last that long before you run out of spaces on the map, so you need to make multiple playthroughs.

the gameplay loop (pun not intended) itself is just doing a run, maybe upgrading a thing in your overworld, choosing if you want to use that new card or not and then just repeating, the game itself is also pretty chill, you kinda look the character move around and numbers goes up. There is active planning on where you place each card but like it doesn't really matter, by the third run I feel you kinda develop an algorythm you follow, the only real exceptions are rivers

There is a story but only really because it seems like every game is legally required to have some sort of story, but it's really not the focus at all

it's just a good game to play and see the clock move 20 times faster

first of all, when I was looking for this book I realized it wasn't just one book, but a franchise, thankfully I found one that was like a compilation of every single of those, so it wasn't a big deal

next thing I realized was that this wasn't a book, but a comic, which is fine by me

I've only read the first book (out from boneville), as this really isn't my thing, there isn't much logical justification there, it's just comedy and not my type of comedy

there really isn't any real plot outside of the comedy, the art is also pretty stale, a page normally consists of a pretty simple setting and hten the character changing experssion without really moving

I don't really have anything more to say

Ok, this is one of my favorite comics, and honestly, I'm ticked off at you.
Every time I try to request something, you just make a bad review of it without fully watching/reading/playing it
I requested WOY and you only watched 4 episodes, I requested G-Darius and you never even played it, saying that you didn't review videogames despite ACTUALLY REVIEWING VIDEOGAMES, and now I requested Bone, and you just read the first volume and called it some dumb comedy book, you called the art stale, and you probably never take the time to even contemplate any book with illustrations other than manga.
Are you deciding to be a Jerkwad and troll me, or do a lot of foreign people just hate me in general for existing?

Okay, let's one one by one, i'm a human being, I make posts on OT, I make this thread for fun. I'm not an YT reviewer who gets paid doing this, I'm just doing this to obtain recommendations that wouldn't have otherwise gotten. However, if there is something I disliked, I wont finish it. The only thing that finishing it would bring me is that I've spent like 5 hours of my life watching something I dont enjoy to make a review that the person who requested it is going to disagree with. And as i'm just doing this for my personal enjoyement, and if i'm not enjoying it, what's the point?

When a series starts in a way that you dont like, it's VERY hard to regain my attention later, as if you dont develop emotional connection to the characters, develop interest in the plot, etc, every subsequent plot point is going to fall flat. So if it safe to assume that if you didn't enjoy the first 4 episodes of something, I wont be enjoying chapter 20.

now, for your requests, I don't have anything against you, it's just that we seem to have very different tastes, also you seemed to missunderstand some of my points

1- Wonder Over Yonder: TLDR of my analysis, episodic comedy show, no real plot or anything outside that, and the style of comedy that it had, I just did not enjoy it, so there wasn't anything in that show for me

2- G-Darius, this is a bullet hell arcade style game. I never said I don't review videogames, I meant that I review plots and narratives and that sort of stuff, I only mention gameplay when it's related to the plot in any sort of way. With G-Darius, while it is a fun game, analyzing bullet hell games is not something I know how to do

3- Bone: Kinda the same as wonder over yonder tbh, very simplistic comic, no real plot, only comedy, and i'm not a fan of this type of comedy, meaning, there is nothing here for me

sorry for the delay

helck

this manga is a fucking mess in every sense of the word, the manga itself is fine-ish, you will enjoy it if you're into action comedy, however, for me, there were some elements that just made me dislike a lot of the reading experience

First of all, I haven't seen a manga that has more .5 chapters than this, like, you're reading a intense fight scene and every chapter there is just a random slice of life section. In a lot of ways the manga just feels like it wants to be a slice of life, however it just seems like i'm switching between two different mangas and it kinda kills a lot of the flow this manga may had for me

not only that, but the way some elements about the characters are presented are kinda wack, like, from the very start of the manga you're introduced to classes and power levels and stuff like that. However, most of them dont really have any point of reference, so they don't really mean anything. Not only that, but I feel a lot of those elements are kinda dropped after the introduction

for a better example, very early on you're shown a graph of the hierarchy of power, and there is a certain group called the heavinly kings which apparently are extremely powerful. We get introduced to one of these characters REALLY early on, and as one of the earliest characters, we dont know how strong the other groups are, and given that the entire point is that they're more powerful than x, but we haven't seen how strong x is, it's just kinda weird

the actual story is just nothing too special IMO, it's nice, i'm just not the demographic for any of the fluff

next: nothing else to read

You have gotta play Super Mario Wonder its the best Mario game by far

Jarcrafted wrote: 3u134m

You have gotta play Super Mario Wonder its the best Mario game by far
I've already beaten mario wonder

IMO it's not the best mario game ever as you claim it to be, it's good, sure, but that title is reserved for mario galaxy 2, nostalgia glasses I know but that game is sick and I keep coming back to it

now, I guess you meant to say 2D mario game, which is again, not really the case as mario maker exists

but in the mainline 2d mario game series, I do think it's a pretty good one. It's hard to rank mario games like that, every game with like the exception of mario 2 kinda stands on the same level, even with stuff like super mario bros for the wii u, the criticism was that it wasn't original, not that it wasn't fun (Which it was)

Now, mario woner does feel pretty different to the previous mario game, for one, and the things that is most obvious are the wonder seeds, you pick them up and the level is transformed, I really like this, it really makes the experience playing the game for the first time really good

I don't know how I feel about the removal of warp zones, they have been in every mario game and wonder does not have it. I personally liked them, as it kinda gave more experienced players some sort of reward, but I dont mind it that much

The level design is really really good, it does feel more crazy than in the preivous games, not only that, but the optional content in this game is probably one of the hardests out of any 2d mario game, only really rivaled by the special world of mario world. It does break a lot of the conventional design structure that mario games had always followed, however, I feel that some of the levels wouldn't be nearly as exciting as the wonder seeds, which dont ask as something like the star coins in mario bros wii. Wonder seeds aren't hidden half the time, which makes sense as the levels are built around COLLECTING the wonder seed, in fact, you cant progress in the game without picking them up

Thing is, the way the achieved this difficulty is not my favouite approach, they wanted to make levels difficult but not complex, so they removed all movement options. There is no flying powerup in mario wonder, there isn't even yoshi, you're limited to regular movement and projectiles. Difficulty isn't in like a mario maker way or mario world romhack way where you're flying all over the place and you feel powerful and the gameplay is frenetic. Mario wonder difficulty is a lot slower, and more focused on precise movement, which agian, to each their own, but I don't think it feels nearly as good.

my only other real complain is that I wish the levels were longer, specially the bonus levels, a lot of levels are like under 1 minute to 100%, which I think it's just a little bit too short, this was already a staple in the franchise but mario wonder turns it up to the max

The badges are fine, there is variety but I ended up just using the one I thought was the most overpowered (twirl as double jump). Badges felt more like celeste assist mode than power ups.

The only thing that I can say for sure that I do think is a bad precedent for the franchise, is that in co-op move they removed the ability to pick up and throw "friends". This was part of the fun of mario co-op and I think it's a total shame that they decided to remove it. Yeah I cried when I was 6yo and my older brother threw me to a bottomless pit, but god it was fun to do it to him later

To sum up it's just really different to the rest of the franchise, and while it's original and really fucking fun, there are still certain elements that rubs me the wrong game, but still, it's mario, this game is still a 8-9/10 for me, the fact that mario games are this consistently good is just impressive

Too many cooks:

I think this would have been funnier if I hadn't seen every mister jagger video 3 times when I was growing up, like, actually, the intro on this video is straight up pulled from agente especial kevin, just with higher budget. But in a way that's the charm of jagger.

the comedy style is also extremely similar to the one of jagger's being the purest shock, rudest comedy. The bits in this video also feel like it would be something from MACHO ALFA TOTAL or AWAKEN 2x09 [Español - Castellano], just that agente especial kevin actually came a year before too many cooks, while those two came out later

so yeah, this is just a jagger video but with higher budget, and given that I don't completely vibe with all the jokes old jagger videos did and the fact that the higher budget kinda removes some of the charm, I don't know what to think about this short.

Also given that this is just comedy I can say anything too substanctial about it, it's just if you vibe with this comedy or not.

----- The Lion King (1994) -----

I haven't seen this movie in over 12 years probably, the only thing I really ed from this movie was the sentence "hakuna matata" and that a character died. Not only that, but I was primarily raised with studio ghibli, not so much disney.

Now, watching the lion king fresh being 18, it's for sure not as shocking as it was when I was a kid (shocking, I know). Things like mufasa death is just a little bit dumb IMO. However, this movies has some really great stuff, the songs they include are really cool, I like the thought of the characters really growing older over the movie, representing how they have more responsabilities and their thought process changes

this is the most apparent on that one scene where they're looking at the night sky and timon asks what the stars were. I thought that scene was really neat. Specially for a movei targetting the demographic it does, it really sends a really great message

However, besides being a really good kid/family movie, from my perspectives it was lacking in some aspects, mainly, I can see now that the end of the movie was a little bit forced. Mainly the entire arc of the second half of the movie, where nala finds simba and tells them to come back.

My problem with this arc is that the point is that the kingdom is fucked and they have to come back as they're the true king and they need to fix shit. And they have been years living in that kingdom without any fixes, and they're the only ones that can change this fact. Not only that, but they assumed simba was dead.

If you had what basically was a dictatorship, you wouldn't care about the line of succession then, you would just unionize and drop a giant boulder in scar's head, not only that, butafter the actual ending of the movie, you would assume there would be a lot more problems with the hyenas as they had basically moved permanently to that kingdom.

The movie is still good, it's just not my favourite to watch at this age.

-- Undertale Yellow (DROPPED) --

I'm dissapointed in this game

The game itself is fine-ish, it's just kinda boring. I made it to the third area of the game before going like "yeah this is not it" and dropping it. There is a lot of effort put into this game, but all of it is completely missfocused

This is not a game for people who enjoy toby fox, this is a game for people who have been playing undertale fangames for the last decade. I say that because I don't see anything of the energy toby fox had in undertale yellow.

One of the most notable aspects of toby fox and toby fox inspired agmes is the character writting, the way toby writes, giving each character different fonts and way to write in a typographical sense, having the dialogue be more internet-ish more than trying to emulate reality, having all those very unique and recognisable characters, that was one of the most important aspects of undertale, they needed you to care about the characters for you to feel bad about killing them in a genocide run.

Undertale yellow doesn't really have characters, in the ruins for example, toriel appears for a little moment, and it's just the same than undertale 1 with some dialogues ommited, and then you deviate from the route, and then you just do the entirety of place with the setting of the ruins without really speaking to anyone. There is one character that appears like 2 times to say vague dialogue and then that results to be the boss, but there isn't really any connection formed between you and that character. And after you beat them and leave the ruins, same story repeats, the zone feels empty, and at the very end you have a little bit of developement, to then be instantly separated from that character again

Not only that, but the way the character designs are basically copied from undertale, some scenes like the house in the ruins is just taken from toriel and in snowdin there is a very silly and dumb character which sets traps for the human, like come on. In order to emualte toby fox style you don't need to copy the exact same characters, just look at everhood for example

Even in deltarune, from second 1 you're introduced to susie and ralsei and underate yellow still have to introduce 1 character I really feel attached too

I was doubting as to recommend Higurashi no Naku Koro (the 1st and 2nd season) ni as you're not fond of horror, but I'd really recommend it more for the mystery aspect (and how it's well stated).

The only spoiler I can give: Season 2 downplays horror significantly.

devilman crybaby:

I love masaaki yuasa, they're my favourite anime director, however, I think this is my least favourite anime that i've seen from them, mainly because of the source material. And mainly because i'm not into action

The animation style and OST for the anime are incredibly good, thing is, while their other works like ping pong the animation or the tatami galaxy are more for older audiences, devilman is just pure raw shounen. The action scenes are a lot more messy than in ping pong, as they're just mostly fluff.

I'm also pretty sad that they didn't allow yuasa to make an ending, since the ending for the tatami galaxy is the greatest ending in anime history.

Now, I do believe that this is one of the best shounen i've seen. I've enjoyed it more than chainsaw man and the others. Mainly as it is not that much focused on the action scenes and the plot itself is nice. I was not the biggest fan of the first episode, but I feel the ending plot twist made me enjoy that start.

so yeah, good anime, doesn't fall in the pitraps of other shounen anime and has an amazing ost and animation. There isn't really anything more I want to say

what the actual fuck this movie is actually kino

it's an underdog story of this guy who comes from a poor village, which cheated their way through school and they go to the city to basically become the equivalente of a police officer in india. Thing is that the exam is like stupidly hard

The actual story itself is largely exagerated and not something that could happen in reality even if it's based on a true story, no human being can work 15 hours, study 6 hours and sleep for 3 for a year. You would actually die of overworking. But what the story nails are the feelings. This is one of the most motivational films i've seen in my life, and even if the synopsis of the movie tells you the ending, you still feel really happy for the protagonist at the end.

Again, like the only other indian movie i've seen, RRR, if you look at this film "objectively" and try to spot plot holes or stuff that doesn't work like that or try to make a very concese story, this movie absolutely does not hold, but that is not the goal of the movie. This is all about the energy and the vibes. I don't know if all indian cinema is like this, but I really do not mind it, they're enjoyable from start to end.

The cinematography and acting are peak. This movie uses a lot of shots that lasts like 3 minutes with no cuts and there featuring a lot of characters and movement. The camera movement is very dinamic. For the entire first part of the movie there is basically no shot where there is a fixed camera. This is less common the longer the movie goes for, but I think just having these incredibly well done shots at the start of the movie just sets you in the right mood to enjoy the rest of the movie

This is not a movie like the human condition where there is a just a really banger plot that makes you think a lot and stuff. It's just a really enjoyable movie to watch

Saints row 1 and 2 (dropped? kinda?)

-----

I first played saints row 1, had to emulate it, the game crashed to me like 4 times. When I finally got it to run, it run really slow. This is all an emulator thing but it really annoyed me.

The game itself is an open world go commit genocide type of game, the main story is pretty ass, the voiceover sucks. It's just mainly a sandbox where you can just commit every crime known to mankind

after a while I decided that saints row 1 was just not worth it, the one that was requested was 2 anyways, so I skipped to that one

the game was drastically better. First of all, it didn't crash once, and everything just felt better, the main story was still pretty bad and kinda boring. So I just focused on running around and causing chaos, which I feel it's what the game wants you to do anyways

In fact, in order to advance the main story, you first need to go do random events in the open world, or else, you wont be able to play the main story. On itself I really dislike this mechanic, just let me do whatever, if I want to rush the main story let me, but in this case, it didn't matter too much as I didn't want to do it anyways

The side-events are fun, they're just excuses to break stuff and fight cops, however, after a a couple hours of just doing that sort of stuff it does get boring. So I decided to not really play the game too much more

so yeah, it's a good sandbox game, not so much a good story game. If I was stuck with this game it wouldn't be so bad tbh, I think as a game that you boot up from time to time just do try out some wack stuff it holds.

I don't like the argument of "it's just a pilot", because I'm aware of it, and I think it's fair to judge a show based on it's pilot, since the fucking point of a pilot is to try to sell the show. If no criticism is allowed because "it's just a pilot", what's the point of having a pilot?

+ I think this is pretty weak as a pilot, I think this start is weak all-around, I think chapter 1 for all my favourite shows and mangas is WAY stronger than this. + some of my criticism is about what can the show do in the future. I don't expect them to be able to tell a story about insanity in this hyper kid-friendly format

Well, never said it's not valid just to judge by a pilot, as I have a somewhat more... well, lenient policy for them. Pilots by nature are somewhat meh by nature. I just found it to be very good for just being a pilot made by an independent group (of which I tend to be more lenient to as well).

What I really expect is this to be more of a mystery/suspense show, because if they go to just the insanity way... it might flop hard for me... Solve the damn mystery and we'll be fine, right, Glitch? Don't make this a DHMIS v2 or a generic analog horror stuff.

I have a few criticisms for the characters too, for example aside from Caine and Pomni the rest of the cast was... existing, kind of difficult to flesh out everyone in 22 minutes. Didn't like much how Pomni's stress was portrayed either, it was way too fast, too rushed to be believable and even exaggerated.

Speaking of beginnings, recommend me stuff that has a great beginning. Preferably anime/manga, can be stuff I have in my PTW.

I get that, it's just an independent studio doing an yt thing and it's impressive that they have managed something like that. However, at the end of my day, if I have to choose between two shows, and one is just drastically better than the other, even if the other option is an indie, i'm not really going to watch it. I want to see the things I enjoy the most, no matter if it's indie or not. I do enjoy a lot of indie movies, series, and games, because I believe they're superior than their high budget companions. But I don't think that is the case for the amazing digital circus

keremaru wrote: 3r6e2u

you FOOL, I have already read through solo leveling!

it was alright, i'm not the biggest fan of it, I read it half a year ago so i'm just going of memory here, but yeah

The most surprising aspect of this manwha is that it's full color, which is very impressive. But after a while you get used to it and don't think too about it, the art itself is fine. There are no incredibly striking s I , it's just average

The story itself is also pretty simple, a member of the family of the protagonist is sick, they're working as a hunter to make some money, shit happens. They are able to level up their skills, something that should not be possible in that world, so they just become really op, My biggest complain is that this plotline is resolved wayy too early, but due to plot reasons, the guy just continues to fight and level up and becomes very edgy, and I dislike edgy protagonists. I just think the plot loses a lot of force in their second half, they're not really fighting for a cause anymore, they are just forced to keep fighting against different enemies because he is forced too, there isn't really any really banger storytelling behind with an insane message or whatever. The guy is just there being edgy[/spoilers]

The actual leveling process is straight up taken from MMORPG's like many other fantasy stories. And I do think there are some pretty applications for it. [spoiler]one of my favourite scenes is when the protagonist didn't accept the daily quest rewards on purpose, that way. In one fight that they were about to die, they were TPed out of the fight, and they were able to save their life because of it. I thought that was incredibly neat, and I was excited to see that technique be used again in the future. Something that didn't happen.
One of my complains is while the protagonist learns new tricks, the insane ammount of power-scaling just outshadows it. The final fight is not a culmination of all that the progonist has learned, it's just doing their basic attacks thing but now that they are 100000% stronger

It's also purely action too, so while a lot of characters are introduced, barely are explored since it's more important to see how sung jinwoo nukes those enemies.

from my point of view, solo leveling was just pretty average with a couple things I did dislike, it's not something I would recommend to people

Genocidal Organ (I finally finished it!)

This is a military fiction mistery book. The premise of the book on itself is pretty simple, simplifying A LOT, there is this bad guy called john paul and our protagonist has to stop them from like commiting more genocides

The most interesting part for me isn't the story itself, but what topics are covered in the story, as it explores deeply the nature of war. It makes the argument that in the future war will become so expensive that no ammount of control over the natural resources will make war worth it. However, war will still happen due to things like patriotism

I agree with the point than even if wart isn't worth it, it will still happen. War IRL isn't really an objectively right thing to do. Even if you take the morality out of it, a lot of wars do happen due to factors like religious extremism.

It also disscussed how war, murders, and other clearly awful things, can be seen as a positive in the right circustances. Our protagonist is a member of a government organization, which does make seem their action less bad. however, the acts that they're commiting in order to stop john paul are also on that same level. John paul is still worse, but the protagonist develops PTSD midway through due to the things they're forced to do and see

This is all twisted with the character of john paul, if war isn't objective, it can be seen as a positive thing, and is a part of human nature (they give the example of war and conflict happening on uncivilized tribes). Under what moral grounds are they convicting john paul? aren't they just acting human?

The answer to that question is very complicated, and the way john paul was made to stop murdering people at the end of the book is not appliable to every single human being on earth. The book does not exactly give a concrete answer, but it doesn't really need to, just raising that question is enough IMO

I liked this book, for me, i'm not the biggest fan of military things, so it was a little bit difficult to get the motivation to read the book, but I can see the appeal and I can really appreciate what the book does. I also have to say, at the end of the book it talks a little bit about the life of the author, and damn, I really feel bad for them

Lived a difficult life it seems, graduated art college at the age of 33, had to work as a web designer. Finally published a book in that same year, people really liked it, they were nominated for awards, and then they got cancer and died shortly after, at the age of 34.

The monet they fianlly were able to follow their dream, became a successful author, started talking with bignames, they just get cancer and die. That is just fucking cruel, I feel so bad for them. I hope they lived a happy life at leaast

there is nothing to analyze here, it's a weird crime comedy with buff indian men punching each other in the most dramatic, over the top and epic way, filled with comedy and musical numbers. There also many musical numbers. I'm generally not a fan of action, so wihle it was fun for a little while, i'm not sitting for this entire movie. Glad you liked it :) The end is kind of weird and honestly I didn't understand everything the first time I read it. It makes more sense after reading Harmony since they mention it, even though it's never explained in detail we just know that something happened and we can assume that something is what happens after the end of Genocidal Organ. I'm not sure if it's really intended by the author or if it's just fan speculation but it does fit very well.
Also yeah the author's story is very sad.
