Just using [url][/url] outside of the link works fine and it adds only 11 characters.

multiply that by 100+ links AND the fact that you need to include text inside the url tags in addition to the link itself

I have to agree with Pentaquola. The whole concept of the trend was that it was literally nothing so obviously there is nothing interesting to be found in them.
