First thing i want to say, thx for the post it gave me a good way to introduce myself to 7K.

I just started playing 7k after a good amound of time playing 4K, so maybe my 4K affect what map i can or cannot play but, in the beginner section:

- In beginner 3, Flower Flag is too hard (should go in beginner 5 i think)
- In beginner 5, If it takes a lifetime is way too hard, i managed S on the other one but i can barely do B there, should go up maybe to 7
- In beginner 6, Uni is too easy, i would put it in beginner 3

and just to show my point, i'll add some screenshot of my collection so you can compare the rank and % and see how much try i put in some of the song:

When you are giving , please try to tell us why you have trouble with the map. Sometimes a map can be easier than another one, but you end up with a lower score because you aren't used to a pattern it uses. This is also good because it helps you think about your play, and figure out what you have trouble with, and what you are good at. Learning where your skills lie is very important for improving. Once you know what you are weak at, you can concentrate on trying to get better at it.

So to awnser your question Bobbias:

i compared Uni and flower flag to determine that Flower flag should be higher than it is and uni lower, the reason behind that being:

Flower flag has: Stairs and grace notes, 2 thing you dont find in uni, yes it is only pattern that i aren't used to but it still make it harder. I also think that uni is more ''relax'' to play, there is less part where you have a high concentration of note, it's more a constant thing (i'm saying that out of what i , might be mistaken).

For the mario song, the hard part about it is how the bpm change and the presence of SV, as you play the easiest difficulty of the song before you could assume that you get used to it, but i didn't feel like i was able to do it at all.

If i'm still not accurace enough about why i think these song aren't at the good level, feel free to tell me and i'll get a better explanation when i have the time because right now i dont. (i'm typing this while listening to my math teacher soo it's not like i can go and play the 3 song to extract the ''hard part'' from them and expose it here)

Thank you for the suggestion! I added some songs you mentioned without questioning them since I still how it was mapped (But I still have to check them soon.) About moving G59 to Adv 1, I guess I can agree with you. I drafted it in Nov 10 since I did not take into consideration the speed of the map. You can think of it as me saying you have to have that kind of speed already when you are at advanced as a prerequisite, but then again not everyone likes to play fast song. (Some likes high-density ones but slow, some fast but few, some etcetc...) Anyway, I moved it. Let's see how it goes.

I still am not sure about the last 3 songs you mentioned since I haven't checked them, but I added them for now.

About smooooch, The patterns in this map are indeed somehow easy, though I guess we can put them in Adv for that. I'm still thinking whether SV-changes reading skill should be taken into consideration or not.

The beat relation to SV changes are almost very easy to read in MX and its a simple 3 note chords. I do agree smoooooch[mx] has the potential to be adv1 but I don't think it properly breaks the adv barrier yet. You have to also consider the beat + note complementation.

That's interesting, I'm the opposite. I find unfinished much harder than Fantastic Future, haha. Sometimes I fail unfinished but I can get through Fantastic Future with no problems.

Really loving the list, but I honestly think 7k Wintersun should be move from Advanced 6 to Advanced 8 or 9. The holds really test your finger independence, and speaking from my personal experience, I can finish G59 level 36 90% of the time and Nou Shou Sakuretsu Girl (Hard) 80% of the time, whereas for Wintersun... I'm nowhere near finishing that. Also, Wintersun really punishes you for missing (HP is 9) which is why I think it should be moved higher.

The songs are really great though Really loving the list. I hope the Expert list will be up soon!

I guess that depends on how good you are with holds.

Shining Collection is fairly difficult the whole way through, where Wintersun's difficulty tends to come in bursts (some sections are relatively easy, whereas others are just plain evil).

Both of them are pretty damn hard but I would say execution wise Shining Collection is definitely harder. Wintersun only kills me because I can't read the slowdown , but Shining Collection kills me because of the speed/density (but I'm getting closer and closer to ing).

I'm updating my own list on my profile on a duo-weekly basis. This is only for ranked maps. Maybe some people can find it useful.
To keep it simple the list only has [Easy][Normal][Hard][Insane][Extra] sorting by my own leveling standards. Note that the level of the maps in [Easy] are around the level of this 7K MX (and [Extra] is pretty much just imperishable night 2006 unless something crazy gets ranked in the future)

well, i like LN too. but my point is for all players.

do you think all rhythm game players were ed o2jam at least once? i never think. and these o!m ranked map LN style is favorable to o2jam free server / o2solo players.

I don't know if all rhythm game players encountered O2jam but I do know that some mania players played O2jam before.

I can say only that LN has huge gap about skill level with other players. If havent experience about playing o2jam.

I still think Lv.30 around map can players are still ET. They are has talent.

But most of all players can't it. Just nowaday's o2jam players are survive players. At result, They are almost pro.

So many people can think Lv.30 is not hard, but this is really no idea somehow for me.

What you're saying can work the other way around, I find level 50-60 full LN maps much easier than ~lv10 insane dan from the bms scale. It depends on what you spent your time training. Taking that into , I find the list does a good job finding a middle ground between the two fields.

Update: I'm now planning to add all ed (worthy of being played and complete) maps here on a weekly basis. I have added some maps on the list. It's quite few right now, but it will accumulate (hopefully) and soon all maps (again, hopefully) would be here. I might stop once I reach a lot of songs. How many songs, I have no idea.

I did not try to be more accurate this time. I'm only planning to somehow complete the list so people would know what song to play next. s will be more appreciated than before ^^

For the LN maps, I would make a separate thread for it if I ever do make one.

Just a quick catch : Milky Way [SC] by ExPew definitely not ADV10. ADV6/7 would make more sense.

Edit : not sure about Ascension to Heaven [7K LV.36] by Liese either. I'd put it ADV 9 or 10. I'll play it again later today to see how it turns out compared to G59 and other similar difficulty maps.

@Entozer : Ascension to Heaven LV.36 in ADV9. Not hard enough to be in ADV10 IMO (or it's just me being good in density/streams maps and bad in the many LN maps in ADV10)

In expert 4, I think you might've missadded pew's hd instead of pew's shd on shuffle heaven.

hello masters. I'm gonna ask some advice. I've yet again reached a deadlock.

my problem is that I can "theoretically" perfect 1-2 simultaneous notes even at 1/8 note. but I go down the drain instantly (and frequently dead) when it's 3 simultaneous 1/8 notes.

There are no simultaneous 1/8 in this map... or are there ? Don't think so. Either way it got to be a finger independance issue, you'll get it right eventually. There is a world of difference berween HyPew and WA diffs.

since I notice that when I'm playing, I raise my wrist very very often when playing. even at those 1/8 parts. If I don't, my fingers/wrist will meet resistance. I mean, if you're familiar with "every action has equal and opposite reaction".

Playing alot with random helps alot for that and not playing the charts that the same thing from the beginning to the end. Most songs in osu are pretty straight forward from the beginning to the end which is good for consistence but if your playing ability on more difficult patterns should get better you only need to random everything or play songs with more out of the usual rhythms

I disagree with this, because you're still confronted at the same patterns in of density, jackhammers are still jackhammer, and stairs just streams etc...
Though RD is good for being confronted to very ugly patterns in lower difficulty levels.

No, I would not recommend doing that. If ever, I would only recommend it when you're in the beginner phase. You should try to play a wide variety of maps (possibly with random too) in order to further increase your skill. Basically, do what Pyakura said.

Do note that playing a lot with random would indeed increase your skill on randomized pattern, but you won't be able to play "clean".

Not possible. You could have been playing the wrong diff of Trigger Happy since there are 4 versions of it. Diff from Beginner to Novice is as accurate as it could be. The same could be said for Advance. Expert's diff division is still not well defined to me, so there might be some misplaced songs among other Expert songs.

If ever this chart would be inaccurate in some areas, that would mean that your specific level on a skill is higher than the others. I know someone (almost everybody) who can play high-level long note charts and good in non-LN maps, but suck in jackhammers.

Hi people I'm still kind of noobish here in the mania world (almost 5 months playing it [and playing rhythm game in general]) I'm guessing I'm somewhere around novice 10 and advance 1 (can B almost all of them and A a couple [in advance 1]). My question is if I should start training with RD mod and or try to look for maps with specific patterns to improve because lately I'm feeling like I'm hitting wall after wall and no good luck in trying to improve in holds and in dense maps (BMS lv.00). Other stuff is that I'm getting pissed by stairs because after my change in play-style in 7k (from left pinky to space) one month ago I can't do stairs well anymore I most of the time I miss some (a lot) notes and the accuracy most of the time is pretty bad. Most of the maps that I play have a couple of them and my accuracy (which is unstable ) gets worse that it should be. What should I do? stick playing normally until it gets fixed or train specifically for it. Thanks beforehand and sorry for my bad english

I'm a fairly new Osu! Mania player. I've only been playing for about a little less than half a year.

Right now, According to this scale, I am roughly around Novice 7-8.

I would like to give some on level Novice 7-10.

1. First off, I would like to say that the skill gap level between Novice 7 songs
and on each level requires that you somehow find another/quicker/faster/efficient way of reading in order to advance. Also some songs in each level are significantly easier or harder than the others.

I would also like to note that these are totally biased towards how I see them. But I do believe there is some objectivity in what I'm about to say.
2. In Novice 8, Flip Flap [Hard] would be an easy Novice 8. I find it just as easy as Sweet Rain or Smooch. However, I do think Far East Nightbird is much more difficult, and significantly a higher level play than any of these songs.

3. Mermaid Girl I can with a B, which is what I get on Flip Flap, Sweet Rain, or smooch. I do see the change in difficulty, as it does have scroll speed changes as well as forces the player to read both sides, instead of the consistent left hand and right hand doing some melody or smth.
However, in Novice 9, Shinseitaju is extremely hard for me. The first 30 seconds is obviously very easy, but afterwards, I have no idea what I'm reading, or in other words, I just can't read that fast.

4. Novice 10 I just can't play any of them through (which is expected), So i have no comment on that

tl'dr
- Flip Flap [hard] suggested for Novice 7
- Mermaid Girl lv 16 suggested for Novice 8

Other suggestions
- Conflict [NM] placed as Novice 8 or 9. (definitely harder than something like Workaholic.)

I'm somewhere in the range of ADV 3~~, but I can Gigantic otn [entozers] till the last part with the Lns.

So like, G59 [18] and Sweet rain [Ins] are super easy for me, but Fantastic Future feels really hard to .

I can do music revolver [easy] patterns with some of the holds, but in general the holds make me die, ESPECIALLY holds on key 3 when I have to also use keys 1 and two, I feel my left hand fingers just lock up when I press down certain keys.

I just dunno how to get a feel for holds I suppose. Also I keep my read speed super low, like usually 6 for high bpm maps, and 8 for slower, is this a problem?

Think I'm about your level, maybe a bit better at LNs, so here's what I think:
I find LNs to be the hardest skill for me too, because there's simply more on the screen and you have to be thinking about when to take your fingers off as well.
Play some LN-y maps: ones which use LNs simply, in beat with chords. REDALiCE - Acceleration comes to mind.

That seems incredibly slow! I play around 13 on my 21" 1920x1080 monitor, arms breadth away if any of that changes things. Slow read speed for LNs is killer, because it's harder to see where to let go. For reference, I play Acceleration at 14 (little faster than I normally play, but I do well).


tl;dr play more of what you suck at. LNs come with experience, in my (short) experience.

Scrolling speeds are weird as heck. I've seen some players who play at a fairly low speed (I'm looking at you Charles445) that does pretty well.

I think it's really whatever the player's comfortable with. I like mine somewhat fast (12x at 200bpm, 14x at 180bpm, etc)

You could try going for RD sometimes if you want. As for hitting walls, that rest is also part of training. You could try to take a break (3-5 days maybe?) You'll be surprised how different playing would feel after the break.

Stairs would be very hard if you always play in random (since if technically the chart is full of stairs, then random would, well, randomize it). I'm not sure how I trained on stairs, but I playing relatively easy songs that are mainly stair-oriented without RD.

A lot of info could be found in Drace's thread. You could refer to it. There are quite a number of questions answered there.

I would go with what Muffin Man said. Play some LN-y maps that are simple. It doesn't matter how dense it is (stairs, double stairs, triple), as long as it is relatively simple to play and understand, go for it.

If you want info for Full LN maps (throughout the song you hold LNs), then you'd have to start from 0 again because it's a different world.

@Scrolling speed
For this one... it shouldn't matter at all on what speed you play. If you are used to speed 6, then 6 is normal to you and 8 is fast. If you are used to speed 10, then 10 is normal to you and 12 is fast. It's all relative anyway.

The only time you would have to worry about scroll speed is when playing retarded maps (In my experience, found mostly in the o2-world). But even then, most of the time you'd only have to worry about your relative slow-scroll reading. With that said, I'm pretty good in slow and normal scroll speed because of those retarded maps.

And also, you can create your own minimum and maximum speed.

For example, my current speed when playing a map are x13 for 200 BPM and x15 for 180 BPM. Then, I make my speed range between 2.6K - 2.7K.
But when play Lily - Scarlet Rose (320 BPM), I play with 2 option (with x8 and x9). Realize that x9 is too fast and can't to be played, I change the speed to x8 and also change the speed range into 2.5K - 2.7K.
How about the 100 BPM? You can pick one of the 2 speed option; either x25 or x26 as long as the speed is in your speed range and you can play comfortably.

Once you get your own speed range, you can apply it into entire Beatmaps you want to play.
So you can't get dizzy easily and enjoy the game

This thread is really helping me out on improving my skills and some of the songs are really helping me with my problems on LNs. This is just what I needed, just a few days ago I've been beating my personal records after practicing with the suggested maps. Thanks a lot for posting this!

Awesome thread, except one thing... In Beginner 3, on Chain Destruction, I get about 94%, and on the one right below, Flowe Flag, I get 74%. Is it just me, or Flower flag is just way harder? It's weird to me, since they're in the same difficulty :v

since the start i have always been scared of trying 7k, just stuck with 4k since it has been fun now with this new keyboard i am expanding out, my 5k is alright 4k is quite good still can always improve, thanks to this guide i am actually enjoying 7k and am not scared of it anymore, 8k and 6k though im playing them and after 50 replays of some maps since there isnt much map variety not getting anywhere, i am going to try lr2 with some suggested songs and hope that helps, any more advice on finding a good way to learn these keys would help

p.s. im glad this is introducing me to nonautoconverts right away and starting to teach different patterns right from the start with enough ease that i can move into it and slowly get better c:

i think my practise level is novice 10- advanced 1 now, hasn't taken too long, now the issue is finding time in between school and other games to practise ;-;

When should I move on to the next song in the progression? I play each until I get an S ranking -- should I be going for an SS every time before moving on instead? I have been playing for a couple of hours and I'm on Beginner Level 3.

SS is unrealistic. Go for either A or S if you want to play patterns until you're comfortable with them, or high B if you just want to try to learn as many new patterns as possible.

Honestly, play whatever you have the most fun playing.

I spend most of my time playing stuff that I can't even (or can with a C or low B) because I find them a lot more fun than stuff I can A or S.

Since he's a beginner I think he should aim for As and Ss for now to train accuracy. In higher level play accuracy is already kinda acquired so it's not much of a problem when playing hard stuff but it's not something a beginner wants.

As far as I've been able to tell, accuracy will improve over time just by playing, whereas the ability to play harder patterns only comes from pushing your limits. If you focus on accuracy over difficulty at low skill levels, it will take much longer to build up your skill at harder patterns.

Ultimately, nobody can force anyone to play in a specific way, but I believe that new players should actually stop focusing on accuracy until they've at least made it to the hard/insane difficulty range.

Hey guys! Just crossed the 1k rank barrier and decided that if I wanted to keep progressing, I'd have to look deeper. I really like this thread and see myself around advanced level 4 or so.

Keep up the great work Entozer! and please continue to expand your list, each 'rank' only having one or two beatmaps at the advanced/expert level is kinda suffering.

Anyways, after thinking about the difficult songs out there and seeing the ever-relevant #rankhardermaps2014, I have to ask.

Why haven't harder maps been ranked?

I know +Danshi is on it's way towards being approved, but seriously, especially with the converts, I don't see why we can't have more of the challenging songs out there. I would love to the osu!mania community expand with more experts being drawn in by the ranked competition that they could use to improve themselves, etc.

But seriously, why? Is it the people ranking maps getting flooded with too many (easier) beatmaps to have time to deal with the harder ones?

In order for a map to get ranked, it needs 3 things pretty much. To be "good" from a quality, playability and musicality perspective. To be "recognized" by the community, aka gain popularity. And constant activity from the mapper's part, integrating mods, showing it off and bothering the BATs (lol).

Most hard maps are either not good, or not popular. And the one that are both are often mapped my mappers who really don't care about ranking their map. Not really the the mappers' fault.

Not a problem per-say imo, it is the community's choice after all. Things might evolve in the future, seems things are already moving forward a little.
