This is until osz2 will be implemented.

When changing the title or artist in a map, a problem may occur in which you may not be able to submit it without making a duplicate map.

DO NOT SUBMIT IF THE EDITOR "WEB" MENU IS DISABLED. YOUR MAP WILL DUPLICATE.

To fix a duplicating map, do the following:

Easy Method (don't have any local changes):
1. Delete local copy of map.
2. copy from osu! website.
3. Go into editor. Make sure the "Web" menu is enabled (not greyed out).
4. Change the Artist/Title info.
5. Do NOT exit the editor.
6. Use File > Open... to change the Artist/Title in other difficulties.
7. Full Submit.

Hard Method (keep local changes):
1. Goto the beatmap info page on the osu! site for your map (http://osu-ppy-sh.jeuxcrack.net/b/xxxx NOT the forum thread).
2. Open song setup for each difficulty and set the artist/title back to what is on the website.
3. Go into Song Select and hit F5. Wait a few seconds.
4. Go into editor. Make sure the "Web" menu is enabled (not greyed out).
4. Change the Artist/Title info.
5. Do NOT exit the editor.
6. Use File > Open... to change the Artist/Title in other difficulties.
7. Full Submit.

If you have any duplicated maps, please a BAT for resolution.

peppy deleted it because apparently this information is wrong. I haven't gotten to test title changes myself, though, so I'm not sure what is right or wrong at this point.

I had trouble changing the name of a map before too and I used this method.

can I ask, before osz2 blah, why we have to full submit to change the title/artist name?
Every time I've had to do a title/artist change (once), all I did was change it, as normal, and Standard Submission. Nothing bad happened or anything.

9- Edit what do you want, example for version:
Version is difficult, so, my old difficult was easy, but I want to update as Normal, just put Normal (if you write anything there, is the difficult setting...);
10- Save notepad (go at file+save, or just make Ctrl+S);
11- If really need's it, change the name of osu file for adequate artist... [Don't really need it];
12- Open Osu, go on editor and search your map (if osu was already running at background, just do an F5 at list songs)
13- Go on editor, and check if the "Web->This Beatmap's Thread" is activated;
14- If is, you did it, before ing check all from difficulties, and check the general info of the song (song setup);
15- Now you're ready to without any duplication.

Just something to add:

Please when changing artist/title of your beatmaps that it will most probably cause an extra .osb file to be created, make sure you delete those as well and full submit, and modders, keep checking for those specially when you request a mapper to change artist/title

SOOO many problems could've been avoided if i had read this before...

I was pretty sure I was f**ed when I saw that my map wasnt yet submitted o.O
So after I did this on the hard way, I was happy. This helped me alot \: D/

where is the "web" menu? i cant find it, im sure im just blind

There's a menu that says "Web" on the menu bar of the editor (close to the right) it normally links to score listing, beatmap thread and quick reply, if these are grayed out means that ing will duplicate your map

Actually it's not allowed to changed your mp3 to another one
Just wait a month, when your map is in the graveyard, you can delete it yourself

Im on mac and this doesnt seem to work (There isnt even a file tab) Can someone help?! I accidentally overwrited a file doing this so Im very traumatized

This is outdated my friend, read the last posts. Please don't bump 3-year-old threads, if you got a problem and there is no obvious solution, try to ask in the #help-channel ingame or create a thread in the Help-forum. Here would also be fine as long as it's mapping related.
Check your recycle bin for lost difficulties.
