With enough pressure and nagging, KatouMegumi finally gave up and confessed that he is the one that killed someone in the group and was also working with the evil in the town. Everyone became enraged with him, and as a punishment they threw him outside in the plaza where all the brainwashed citizens are. The citizens crept slowly forwards until KatouMegumi was surrounded, the group watched him die until they could not hear him anymore. They all walked away and forgot about what just happened.

As the group was walking away the citizens found them and started terrorizing them. Everyone ran into a nearby building but while they were going inside the building, Railey was making sure that everyone was in there before him, but that was his mistake. A citizen grabbed Railey and dragged him into a separate building far away. The remaining locked the door and blocked it with items in the room. As they were calming down they soon realize that the room they were in only had one door and no windows, but before they can take it all in the room began to quickly fill up with water. Around the room were codes they had to solve in order to escape and on the ceiling was a locked hatch with a ladder leading up to it. The group realized they needed to solve the codes in order to find the correct combination to escape.

But there was a catch, this was a trap set up by Enetro to kill another member of the group, if they solve the everything someone must stay in the room and drown while the others escape and save Railey, who will be left behind?

Explain? What forced them to stay, and how did that force them to stay? Kinda lazy writing if there isn't a reason here.

Read the entire thing again and reply when you actually find the reason :)

It took a few tries, all I can come up with is that there's a ladder that isn't retractable and acts as any other unstable ladder would, that would require someone to hold it or something. Either that or the volume of water flooding in wouldn't allow for all of them to solve it at once, as they have to wait for each other to climb up as it floods, and they sacrifice one person to solve it on their own. Though, I'd find that to be impractical to if it's legible from a safe distance away, in which you can read from the ladder. The distance wasn't stated, so there isn't much I can assume.

Is the answer too obvious? I feel like I'm missing something. Either that or the situation was not properly conveyed. Having the voters make up reasons for your story to make sense wouldn't work and I doubt that's the case here, so it has to be something obvious that I'm completely oblivious to.

The only other thing I can think of is that someone needs to hold the door to keep the angry citizens out. However, this wouldn't make sense as the water would just wash them out if the door is opened.

I hadn't even thought of that. So even then, it wouldn't make much sense. I don't see how a death is a necessary result, that was all.

But if the goal was to hold the door closed, is the group relying on the water pressure to burst through the door? if that's the case, then abraker's statement should apply. Hold the door closed until you know that you can reach the ladder, and the the water pressure flooding outwards is too great for the other crazy citizens to get in, and instead flushes out.

At this point, we're thinking of random shit that might not even work as intended. "Lets just say it's so because it is and not question the legitimacy of the situation" is basically where we're at now.
