Rewrite Mafia

The Earth sees. It watches. It feels. In the most drastic cases... it retaliates.

Humanity has caused the Earth pain for centuries. It has spread across the land, destroying the land it touches. For them, the Earth's health is secondary. What most do not realize is that their own demise is coming. For the rest, a never-ending war is their only choice.

Earth is a world of science, but also a world of magic. Unknown to the public at large, two forces have been fighting each other to control the Earth's only weapon: The Key. On one end is an army of superhumans, an army focused only on ensuring the Key does not fulfill its mission. On the other end is a cult of summoners, a fatalist group who wish to use the Key to their own ends.

The battlefield is Kazamatsuri, an environmentally-conscious city driven to provide an inspiration to the rest of the world to move towards a healthy relationship with their home planet. Even now, as the days , the two forces are planning and mobilizing for the decisive battle.

However, unknown to even them, there is more at stake. The Earth is running out of life, and this may be the last successful attempt at life on the entire planet. Whoever wins this battle here... will decide the future of the world.

Rewrite Mafia is an attempt to bring the Rewrite story to life in mafia form. Unlike Higurashi, where most every plot points were incompatible with the premise of mafia, Rewrite is a remarkably compatible choice. The following is what I am planning to incorporate in this set-up:

  1. Characters with roles that fit their stories and fighting styles, yet still unique.
  2. A secondary alignment (three possibilities in total) that will not only provide an inherent bonus native to that alignment, but also affect flavor over time. There's a strong possibility of it having extra in-game effects as well~
  3. Secondary win conditions based on the above, but completely irrelevant to the primary win condition of town vs mafia. If you are town and mafia wins, you will still be considered to have lost the game even if your secondary alignment has won. Note that I'm most likely going to make this background noise until the end of the game to enforce this.
  4. The 'health' of the player will be based on an HP system, both because it's much simpler to understand than the HS shenanigans I tried in my last game and because it fits the flavor much better than anything else.
  5. Players will be given a certain amount of AP to use their skills with. Choosing when to use your AP can be important strategically, as you will be allowed to save them for use later.
  6. All roles made for both town and mafia alignments. It will be completely impossible to use character alignments to determine alignment, so don't even try.
  7. Non-Bastarded Set-up. Your roles will function exactly as they are listed, and you will know if there's anything you do not know about yourself.
  8. Spoilers. It is impossible to theme a mafia game on this VN and not include spoilers, so go in expecting to be spoiled if you are interested in playing the VN for yourself.

NOTES

1. It's still going to be a while until this is ready. I'm not even done deg all the roles yet, and I'm fully expecting balance to be a major pain.
2. With the above, if there isanyone who is willing to help design/balance or just help moderate the game, I would not deny the assistance.
3. I'll accept pre-ins, but keep in mind again that this isn't going to be a game that will happen shortly.
4. Any of the above is subject to change. This is what I'm hoping to include. If something proves impossible to balance or just otherwise interferes with the theme too heavily, I'll remove it.
5. Comments, questions, or concerns about what I've revealed here are welcome.
6. I'm not going to include a role that gives flavor names again. Not after last time.

since there's no way to know which one is the vig and which one is the switch that mechanic is not gimmicky, it's just completely random

here is how this game will go:

both non-townies claim immediately, and they are confirmed since no scum will fakeclaim (if 1 scum fakeclaims, he has 1/3 chance of getting lynched immediately (0-1 exchange), 1/3 the switch gets lynched and the vig shots him (1-1 exchange), 1/3 the vig gets lynched, in this case he has 50% chance of getting lynched right after and 50% to get the switch lynched too before getting lynched himself).
as soon as scum can use the one-shot kill, they target one of the two non-townies with that.
if they hit the vig, game goes ahead one random lynch at a time
if they hit the switch, game still goes ahead one random lynch at a time, with the only difference that in this case vig will shoot at lylo (because it's the stage in which he has more probability to hit scum), which doesn't make any difference at all with a lynch in a nightless game...

Hm. Maybe the sections should be altered a bit.

How about something like this for classification of mini-games:

1. Set-ups that are meant to be fairly short in length.
2. Set-ups that have a small player count. Not sure whether 7p or 9p would be better for this one.
3. Set-ups that are easy to understand for new people, meaning no roles or mechanics that are non-standard.

Any that meet two of these can be classified as a mini-game. I believe that every mini-game played up to this point would fit this.
Newbies follow at least 2 and 3.

I've started an emergency list in the opening post. If anyone wishes to be put on that list, post here and you will be added.

All that would mean is if a game suddenly has to leave for some period of time and doesn't have a back-up already set, they can ask one of the people in this list if the latter can fill in for the former unitl they are able to fully return to moderating duties. Naturally that would mean anyone currently alive in that game would be unable to accept.

I would recommend having at least some modding experience before requesting to be on the list, but it will not be an enforced barrier.
I'm ready to host a sleep/sleepless mafia. :)

Can you explain what the set-up is or at minimum give the player amount and game type (open, closed, theme, mini)?

Sleep/Sleepless Mafia | 9-15p | Closed setup
Each day has 2 phases: Day and Night. Each of them have a equal deadline, 5 days. Player can also vote at night, lynch rule apply.
Players can choose whether they'll sleep at night or not. A sleep player can't vote at night. (They can't be lynched too.)
Night kill can only use when the is awake at night.
Some player may have an item. (Hidden ability) Both role/ability can be used any time.
In day time, player must state their action before use it.

I was talking with Ghostfrog a bit about the factions setup and we don't really know how well it works, so I'm thinking that maybe a game or two in this subforum would reflect better on whether this set-up is worth anything or not. It's at the very least an interesting deviant.

Game is nightless. Townies and fanatics are aware of their partner.

Townies win if both of the fanatics and either the merchant or grim reaper are lynched.
Fanatics win if both of the townies and either the merchant or grim reaper are lynched.
Merchant wins if one townie, one fanatic, and the grim reaper is lynched.
Grim Reaper wins if one townie, one fanatic, and the merchant is lynched.

EDIT: Of course, this would be meant as a mini-game since it's a small game and not meant to be overly long.

Mafia win when they control half the votes and nothing can prevent it.
SK wins if he's in the last two and both mafia are death.
Mercenary wins if SK is lynched or he kills SK (doesn't know who is the SK and leaves the game). If SK is killed by Mafia, he becomes a Vanilla Townie and wins with town.
Town win when mafia and SK are dead.
For balance purposes I'm still thinking about modifying the bulletproofs, some would be nice.
Notes:
*Mercenary has only one Strongman shot, which can be used in day or night, but dies if he shoots town. The townie shot will not die if this shot makes town lose.
*Mercenary has Cop ability. Cannot use his strongman shot the same night nor next day.
*Godfather is kill-immune, shows Inno for Cops and only he can perform the nightkill, if he's lynched, Roleblocker will be able do the NK.
Could work with 9p without 1 VT, Mercenary and SK/1 Mafia.

Edit: Made some stuff more clear, nerfed town, it was apparently too stronk.
Edit2: Screw bulletproof townie.

Maybe I can come up with some ideas about a mini-game.

Does mercenary only win if he kills SK? If so, what happens if the SK is lynched or killed by mafia instead? Does he win if the SK has one-shot bulletproof and mafia shoot the SK as well in the same night?
Mercenary wins if SK is lynched (or shoot SK). If SK is killed by mafia, he becomes a Vanilla Townie and wins with town.
I could make the Mercenary shot as a Strongman one.
there's too many PRs in there. since it's an open setup all they do is claim and you have 4 practically confirmed towns

not to mention if BP claims he's confirmed town and no one can even shoot him

Special Mechanic: Poker
- Between the Day phase and Night phase, there will be a special phase called the Poker phase.
- During the Poker phase, each players are dealt 5 cards.
- Players may ask for different card once per each card dealt, up to all five cards.
- Players are not required to ask for differnt cards at once.
- Based on the final cards, appropriate powers will be given.
- Roster will be updated when it is completed.
