Combine that with an environment that thrives off of that, and you have a recipe for disaster. If people really do have suicidal thoughts or tendencies, I really do motivate them to do a few things1) Speak with a trained professional. Preferably someone that's not related to you in of friendship and stuff. Your friend has biases, has tendencies, and is not trained on how to deal with these situations. Even someone like me, who is currently in the process of becoming a trained professional, can't really help because I have my own viewpoints on you as a person and am going to give biased opinions, advice, and help. There are plenty of options on how to seek out care, plenty of options to deal with insurance, and there are more and more growing options to sort of allow an individual to seek care without having to deal with overbearing parents and such (I know it's not always going to happen, because parents have SUCH a strong influence. They probably pay for everything, they'd be the ones driving you, and not every parent is super excited about "oh yeah my son wants counseling because he's depressed"), but options can be sought after, explored, and discussed.2) Take a change of environment. Which can be difficult. It can be really fucking difficult, because some places are so integral to identity. I had a huge identity crisis after I got banned from the game, because osu! is inherently who I am. It shapes the way I think about the world, think about music, and was where I got the majority of my friends. But what taking a change of pace can do is can allow one to really sort of escape environments that can fuel suicidal thoughts or tendencies, or even just... i don't want to say normalize, but rather allow sort of these intrusive thoughts to be seen as ideal. Humans are inherently social, and we play off our environment. We learn about the world through those around us, and we learn what is okay and not okay through where we live. If I was in East Texas, for instance, I may have more of a hankering for race-based humor than if I lived in Southern California. If you are able to pinpoint envionments where you either are receiving suicidal thoughts, or are having these thoughts ed, a break may be able to help with that.3) Consult a fucking professional. I know I already said this but like man it's so important. Your friends are great and they can give advice but it can't compare to someone who is a neutral professional. And if they aren't working, do everything in your power to find another one, because professionals are all human and different people may work for you. You should not see a therapist as some sort of god that will solve all of your problems and is the devil if they don't, but rather a neutral party that is trained to help you through your situation to the best of their ability through their experience, knowledge, and education. So that's sort of the first step. I can't force anyone to seek help but I can constantly give them the information they need to sort of seek help, and I personally am willing to assist people with finding the help they need, with my limited knowledge of the counseling world.

abraker

Global

8,355 posts

ed July 2014

abraker

2018-02-16T03:52:29+00:00

Going off what CDFA said, Eph I suggest you still allow dark humor in here but have a pinned thread on top basically saying you don't mind the shit, but also, since OT likes dark humor cake with a cherry on top, have the stuff CDFA said about seeking for help in case the person is actually in trouble.

std skin 2021: link  |  mania skin 2021: (vanilla ver ~ hidden ver)osu!Skills - Compare your skills in a slightly different wayOT!neus - osu off-topic subforum's very own discord server

Naimae

66 posts

ed September 2011

Naimae

2018-02-16T03:54:16+00:00

Instead of just sticking it up there verbatim, it'd probably be best to go over it and revise it a bit.
